Kimley-Horn has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a motivated Substation Electrical Engineer to join our team in our St. Paul office.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities Include:
Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for utility-scale substations
Develop design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, schematics, one-line/three-line diagrams, etc.
Provide electrical design and installation support (RFI, submittal, transmittal, etc.) to project staff, EPC contractor, and EPC project management team
Daily interaction and collaboration on multi-disciplinary teams, with interaction across Kimley-Horn offices
Mid-level and senior staff are expected to prepare project specifications, electrical cost estimates, and proposals, supporting the growth of electrical engineering service areas in the Minneapolis market and across the country
Mid-level and senior staff are expected to lead project teams to produce high quality deliverables
Mid-level and senior staff are expected to assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our electrical engineering practice
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer - Electrical
Prior experience in an Electrical Engineering role focused on utility-scale substation design
Understanding of the National Electrical Code (NFPA70), National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards
Interest and experience engaging directly with clients, having a growth mindset to build business
Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
Preferred
Experience in utility-scale PV, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, or data center designs
Demonstrated understanding of construction techniques and project management practices
Experience with ISO (ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, etc.) interconnection procedures
Experience managing and mentoring team members
Experience with marketing and business development activities
Experience in engineering project management
Proficiency in AutoCAD
