Energy Trading Consulting - Senior Manager
The oil and gas industry are facing unprecedented challenges through volatile energy prices, changes to the geopolitical landscape, supply and demand imbalances, and evolving consumption patterns due to the energy transition. This creates an opportunity for the sector to pivot to a long-term strategy that helps address these challenges. Energy markets will be a critical enabler of an efficient energy transition that includes optimization of supply and modernizing underlying technology to support the transition.
The opportunity
Recognizing the need of our clients, we are building an energy trading team to help our clients optimize current supply and navigate the transition. You will be a thought leader leveraging your experience in mature and robust energy trading markets, coupled with your vision and experience with the future of energy to be a key contributor, shaping our strategy, offerings, and delivery of operating model transformation for our clients that enable the people, process, and technology capabilities for this challenging market model transition. This is a high-profile position that will work with energy leaders and client serving teams across the different EY practices.
Your key responsibilities
As Energy companies explore opportunities to set up and optimize their energy trading function your role will be to enable this journey, undertaking some or all the following responsibilities:
Define and document trading front, middle and back-office process design
Experience in defining and implementing an energy trading organizational model
Trading front, middle and back-office benchmarking, surveys, and market scans for new and emerging technology / value creation opportunities
Vendor Assessments & Scoring and Fit/Gap Analysis
Integration and alignment of cross product and cross region commodity trading processes and technologies
Ability to leverage prior energy trading experience to identify new business opportunities
Functional design and requirements gathering across front office, risk, accounting, settlements, logistics, and scheduling
Ability to work across various stakeholder groups, including business, front office, and technical teams
Understanding of capital adequacy, liquidity, and treasury as it pertains to energy trading organizations
Development of energy trading functional and technical roadmaps
Trading growth strategies / new market entry
Commodity management vision setting
Commercial strategy for new energies
Business Development
The purpose of this role is to help position EY for growth within the Oil and Gas sector in a rapidly changing market. You will aid in the growth of our energy trading team, author thought leadership material, develop our “Go to Market” strategy, develop sales collateral and solution material to position EY in the market. You will learn about the various competencies and capabilities within EY. You will be a key player in the sales and delivery lifecycle of engagements.
To qualify for the role, you must have:
A bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, finance, or a related field and approximately 8 years of work experience
Minimum of 5-8 years of experience working within the oil and gas trading sector, particularly with the front office
Technical/Functional ETRM system implementation experience or ETRM Implementation experience
Experience in energy commodities and understanding of the commercial aspects of commodity trading, marketing, or procurement
Experience with the transaction lifecycle for commodities and the nuances that come with executing physical or financial commodity transactions
Demonstrated ability to liaise between business, technology, and vendor teams
Strategic thinking and solutioning skills to craft a strong value proposition
Strong understanding of the current solutions in the market and ability to craft a specific point of view for our clients
Implementing solutions for our clients
Strong collaboration and teaming
Curious mindset and desire to learn and grow
Highly seasoned project management skills and ability to complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ability to influence at all levels of the organization
Strong executive facilitation skills related to strategy development and problem solving
Exceptional written and oral communication skills on a global basis (including Presentations) as well as listening and interpretation skills
Willingness to go out of your comfort zone to break new ground and explore part of your Industry Market which you are not most familiar
Willingness to travel up to 60%
Ideally you will also have
Prior experience in oil and gas
Experiences across multiple technology platforms
Functional design and requirements gathering across front office, risk, accounting, settlements, and logistics & scheduling
Detailed technical and solution design for ETRM (ION products, SAP Commodity Management, etc.)
Solution Architecture, Data architecture and Infrastructure Performance and Cost Optimization
Experience with AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform
Experience with SAP Cloud Platform Integration
Experience with JAVA, OpenComponents, OpenJVS, OpenAVS and SAP ABAP development
SQL, Python or similar languages

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $169,900 to $388,200. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $203,900 to $441,300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
