TKDA Assistant Group Manager, Structural (Facilities) in Saint Paul, Minnesota

Our employee-owned and multi-disciplined team of engineering and design professionals is looking for an experienced structural engineer with engaging leadership skills to join our team as the Assistant Structural Group Manager within our Facilities Engineering division in Saint Paul. As the Assistant Group Manager (AGM), you will work directly with the Structural Group Manager to cultivate the growth, direction, financial performance, and leadership of our Facilities Engineering Structural team, which focuses on providing structural solutions for education, government, energy, food, and industrial clients. As a team leader, you will coach and mentor a talented group of engineering designers and be responsible for their professional development in relation to overall team objectives and their professional aspirations. As an AGM, your time would be split between people management, design/engineering, and/or project management responsibilities as outlined below: People Management Assist the Group Manager in assigning projects to structural designers and drafters and obtaining target utilization metrics. Provide coaching and continuous mentorship of structural designers. Conduct recurring 1:1 meetings with direct reports and complete mid-year and annual performance reviews and development plans. Design / Engineering Lead the development of technical specifications, typical details, design calculation tools and software standards for the structural team. Provide and lead Quality Assurance/Quality Control reviews for structural projects, including review of plan sets and design calculations. Serve as the lead structural on multi-discipline projects and/or the project manager of structural discipline projects. Assist in proposals and project development for structural projects including fee estimating, client presentations and interviews, and site inspections. Prepare structural plans, specifications, design details and construction documents. Note: Flexible / hybrid work arrangements (3 days in office / 2 days remote per week) will be considered for self-starter and self-sufficient professionals who have demonstrated an ability to work successfully in a remote work environment.Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Structural Engineering. Ten (10) + years of progressive experience in structural design of structural steel and reinforced concrete industrial, government, education, and mining projects. Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota. Previous experience in leading a team of structural engineers and drafters in a department or as part of a design team. Previous experience in responding to requests for proposals, including estimating structural fees. Previous experience and ability to prepare studies, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates and work with drafters to prepare accurate design drawings. Knowledge associated through design coordination with other disciplines on a large projects: Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc. Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, etc.). Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; Ability to write specifications and reports and lead and/or participate in discussions during client consultations and project team meetings. Ability to mentor staff members in drawing production. Advantageous Qualifications Previous experience in RISA 3D. Previous experience with and knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit. Previous experience in the design of light and heavy industrial projects. Previous experience in project management. Previous experience in business development with a demonstrated record of tracking and securing new project opportunities. *Have you heard the news?
