Greenhouse TechnicianJob Description

A leading agriculture company focused on research, development, and marketing of varieties of sugarcane. At the St. Louis location, the focus is on evolving technologies in molecular and cell biology to develop novel improved sugarcane varieties. They sell their technology globally and have a hub for genome editing to ensure optimal sugarcane yield. With 450 employees, over 60% are in R&D roles for plant breeding.

This position works closely with laboratory scientists to maintain sugarcane plants in the greenhouse and provide high-quality donor material for genetic transformation. The ideal candidate will engage with relevant areas of the company to design, implement, and document plant growth practices that optimize plant quality.

This role is responsible for every single plant transplant, hands-on plant care, documenting plant physiological data, quality management, and tracking. Proactive communication is essential, especially if there are issues with the plants. The candidate will ensure the plants stay alive and healthy as the #1 priority.

Hard Skills

• Planning, managing, and executing routine greenhouse activities (planting, watering, trimming, ordering soil and supplies, pest & pathogen monitoring, greenhouse organization and cleaning)

• Testing new growing supplies and mediums for enhanced plant growth

• Ensuring a steady supply of high-quality donor material for genetic transformation

• Communicating with greenhouse facilities and regulatory agencies such as USDA

• Following Quality Management and Stewardship SOPs

• Maintaining detailed and organized records

• Preparing basic reports and presentations
