This position exists to perform technical review and support of sites in the Superfund and Site Assessment Programs. This includes the development of technical documents and technical review of Site Assessment sites in the EPA pipeline to evaluate if there is a risk to human health and/or the environment, and to make recommendations based on those risks, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources, Environmental Science, or other closely-related environmental field WITH two completed courses in Hydrology/Hydrogeology. [Candidates must list the two courses in Hydrology/Hydrogeology on their resume to qualify]

AND

Two years of professional experience as a Hydrologist or Hydrogeologist. Experience must include investigating and modeling groundwater contamination at environmental sites AND assessing and mitigating risks to nearby human and/or environmental receptors;

WITH

Basic computer skills; proficiency in Word and exposure to Excel and Power Point.

Ability to gain a complete understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures.

Knowledge of statistical principles and methods of data analysis and ability to apply these methods.

Good communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external business partners.

Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

Strong technical writing skills. Experience writing reports for EPA is a plus.

Attention to detail and the ability to cross-check information throughout a report for consistency and accuracy.

Knowledge of field sampling and analytical laboratory methods used to investigate sites with various contaminants.

Ability to determine groundwater flow direction, transmissivity, and conductivity using field data.

Ability to utilize aquifer characteristics to inform environmental investigations and cleanups.

Knowledge of the Vapor Intrusion Best Management Practices and procedures and application to risk-based assessment and mitigation at contaminated sites.

Ability to develop conceptual site models (CSM) for contaminated sites.

Experience working on sites contaminated with chlorinated solvents, RCRA metals, and 1,4-dioxane.

Ability to evaluate site data for trends and determine the need to fill data gaps.

Knowledge and understanding of both the Superfund and Voluntary programs.

Problem-solving skills for resolving complex technical matters.

Communicating technical data and recommendations to peers, project stakeholders and the public.

Proven written and verbal communication and human relations skills to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

Proficiency with GIS.

Ability to make environmental regulatory decisions based on data.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.

Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
