Requirements

  • Must possess current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the State of Michigan, and successful completion of a course in Pharmacology for LPN's.
  • Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to establish therapeutic relationships with patients and to communicate and work effectively with patients and staff in accordance with patient treatment plans and facility policies and procedures.
  • Must possess sound nursing knowledge necessary for implementation and documentation of nursing treatment plans.
  • Must possess patience, poise and tact in dealing with patients, families, visitors and facility employees.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Approved CPR Certification.

Summary

Administers nursing procedures to patients in accordance with patient's treatment plan, performing a full range of LPN assignments using judgement in making decisions where alternatives are determined by established policies and procedures.

Administers oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular meds as directed following the established policy and procedure for such. Exercises judgment and withholds medication in response to patient's condition or apparent discrepancies and notifies Charge Nurse and/or Shift Supervisor or Nurse Manager as appropriate.  Completes pain assessment and re-assessment.

Administers scheduled and PRN meds, including controlled drugs. Adheres to procedure for controlled drug count or controlled substance inventory count if using an automatic dispensing system.

Performs a variety of treatments/procedures such as inserting N/G tubes, dressing changes/wound care, irrigations, suctioning, catheterization and so forth following established policy and procedures, physician
