- USW Union, Transportation Salary Schedule.
- Rate of pay beginning at $20.16 per hour.

GENERAL SUMMARY: * The position of Bus Driver, under the direction of the Transportation Director is responsible for the safe transporting of special education students for the Saginaw Intermediate School District. Other duties involve managing the operation of the bus to ensure a safe and hazard free environment for all students. *ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet the requirements, and follow the rules and regulations, as established by the Michigan Department of Education and the Saginaw ISD.
- To obey all laws governing the operation of a vehicle and/or a school bus.
- Maintain a safe environment on the bus.
- Responsible for the bus, its equipment, its passengers, and the attendant assigned to his/her bus.
- Must complete and document daily pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and must immediately report needed repairs.
- Attend classes in CPR/First Aide and other training sessions as directed by the Supervisor of Transportation.
- Responsible for working with the bus assistant and district employees to meet the individual medical, safety and behavioral needs of the students being transported.
- To be at assigned work site at stated starting times, ready to perform assigned duties.
- In cooperation with program staff, implements behavior management plans, as appropriate.
- Appropriately secure wheelchairs and all child restraint systems.
- Keep all student, parent and staff information confidential.
To have a positive attitude in working with students, parents, community members, and other staff members.
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
To prepare and maintain route sheets.
- To prepare "Accident Report" after any accident involving the bus and school bus passengers.
- To prepare reports and keep all records required.
- To assist the Transportation Director in mapping bus routes and planning schedules when needed.
To perform related duties as required by the Transportation Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required.
- Candidate is required to have an appropriate commercial driver's license and bus driver's certification.
- Candidate is required to have an excellent driving record.
- Candidate must have prior work experience with children. Experience working with special needs children is preferred.
- Candidate must have good interpersonal relationship skills and be able to work well with students, parents, and co-workers.
- Be able to keep all student, parent, and staff information confidential.
- Be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Must have working knowledge of computer keyboarding skills.
- Candidate must be willing to receive additional training to improve job skills.
