City of Safety Harbor Utility Maintenance II in Safety Harbor, Florida

Must have the following in order to apply:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, one (1) year experience in public works, utilities maintenance, parks maintenance, or construction to include the operation of trucks and medium construction equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Possession of Level three (3) Distribution System Operators License, issued by the State of Florida, or the ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire. Beginner Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification, or must obtain within one (1) year from the date of hire. Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License, with air brake endorsement; or valid Florida Drivers License, and the ability to obtain within six (6) months from the date of hire, must possess temporary permit on date of hire. No Valid CDL with proper endorsement(s): CDL Permit within six (6) months from date of hire, and valid CDL with proper endorsements within eighteen (18) months from date of hire. Employees without a valid CDL and appropriate endorsements on their date of hire will serve an extended probation until the valid CDL and endorsements are obtained, to include necessary training and classroom time and will not exceed eighteen (18) months from date of hire
  • Knowledge of the tools used in Public Works maintenance and construction, and knowledge of materials, methods, and practices used in Public Works environment
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards connected with maintenance and/or Public Works construction work
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Must follow written and verbal instructions

Job Description: Under the direct supervision of the Water/Wastewater Maintenance Foreman, or designee. Performs manual labor related to the City's water and wastewater systems in the Water/Wastewater Division of the Public Works Department. Assignments include construction, maintenance, and/or truck and equipment operations, in accordance with all applicable City codes and Departmental policies. Will be contacted by telephone for call-out after hours. Work is reviewed through observations and obtained results.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains flow meters, main and service lines, valves, hydrants and other component parts of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Operates machinery and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Patches and repairs streets with soil, rock, asphalt or other materials.
  • Lays sod, restores landscapes in work areas.
  • Locates property lines, utility services, and inspects water and wastewater lines, valves, and manholes.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools such as shovels, picks, power saws, drills, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment: Works outside under various weather conditions; Will be discussed with applicant.
