The Senior Software Engineer will develop software for our ASCEND family of products used across multiple domains including Labor, Human Services, and Education. In addition, they will be responsible for the development of digital products incorporating mobile platforms, big data, collaboration, data capture, advanced analytics, messaging, security, and other technologies as identified. The selected candidate will support the technology design and implementation efforts of a major Job Corp reengineering effort to modernize its national student enrollment services system.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Lead in the design, development, integration, and testing of new software and provide enhancements to existing software.

  • Conduct technical trade-off studies and research efforts.

  • Lead requirements analysis.

  • Work with other members of the team to generate creative and innovative solutions.

  • Mentor more junior team members in the use and best practices of software development principles.

  • Conduct performance analysis and performance improvement efforts.

  • Developing your technical skillset as aligned with your career goals.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years developing software programs in a highly technical environment (an advanced degree will partially reduce the required years of experience).

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience related to technology integration in support of government services including analytical dashboards, web-based information systems, and GIS (desirable, but not required).

  • Dynamic knowledge of the development process, and experience with aspects like requirements analysis, development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution .

  • Experience with agile development tools and team development projects.

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or other cloud-based infrastructure as a service environment.

  • Experience with JavaScript libraries (e.g., JQuery, React, Bootstrap, D3, etc.).

  • Experience with MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle or other relational databases.

  • Experience with NoSQL databases, including MongoDB, Cassandra, or CouchDB.

  • Experience with mobile development (Flutter, React Native, or Xamarin) is a plus but not required.

  • Experience with Java, C# (.NET) or C is a plus but not required.

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with others in a virtual work environment.

  • Proficiency with languages such as HTML5, CSS, XML, JSON, Python, PHP, JavaScript, Ruby, C#, etc.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing.

  • Outstanding customer-focused support and professional communication.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to learn quickly and work in a collaborative team environment.

  • A desire to learn new skills and keep up with the changing environment.

Disclosures:

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program , is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of$140,000 - $150,000.Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
