Built-in 1973 Dignity Health Methodist Hospital of Sacramento is committed to providing daily excellence in health care for residents of Sacramento’s southern suburbs including the Elk Grove Wilton and Galt communities. Methodist Hospital is home to a 158 acute-care bed facility with 1120 employees 283 medical staff and 29 Emergency Department beds. Methodist Hospital also owns and operates Bruceville Terrace – a 171-bed sub-acute skilled nursing long-term care facility adjacent to the hospital that provides care for the elderly as well as those requiring extended recoveries. Methodist Hospital is home to the Family Medicine Residency Program an accredited and nationally recognized program which provides resident physicians with specialty training in primary care family medicine. Together the hospital and residency program implemented a ground-breaking curriculum addressing the identification treatment and assistance of human trafficking victims and created a one-of-a-kind health clinic for victims the Human Trafficking Medical Home.
Responsibilities
Position Purpose: This position reports to the Family Practice Residency Program Director. The incumbent will perform professional medical duties while undergoing advanced professional training in Family Practice under the general supervision of teaching faculty and community physicians at Methodist Hospital and Mercy General Hospital.
Position Scope: This position is responsible for participation in all of the educational and clinical activities of the Mercy Healthcare Family Practice Residency Program on a daily basis. This includes cooperation with all educational elements of the teaching program as well as providing clinical services to program patients within the Mercy Family Health Center; Methodist Hospital, Mercy General Hospital, Mercy San Juan Hospital and other approved clinical and training facilities. The incumbent prepares, updates and maintains current and accurate medical records for all clinical patient encounters. The incumbent attends teaching conferences, provides support to other trainees, prepares forms and evaluations, and participates in the interface of the residency with the medical staff as well as other hospital and regional departments. The incumbents will also participate in the evaluation, interviewing, ranking and selecting of qualified applicants to the residency on an annual basis. The incumbent will participate in the assurance of compliance with the changing and evolving requirements of outside accrediting, licensing and surveying agencies. The incumbent will participate in the monitoring and maintenance of procedures to assume quality in all aspects of the residency program.
Major Challenges: Hours of duty may be long and irregular. Coping with human misery, pain, death and dying may be difficult. Decisions Made at the Resident Level: Patient care decisions within the scope and privileges delegated by the supervising attending physician, and commensurate with the level of residency training. Decisions Made at the Leadership Level: Patient care decisions beyond the scope, privilege or experience of the resident physician, commensurate with the level of residency training.

1.1 Attendance at all rotations must conform to the goals and objectives of that rotation. Any absences must be excused in
accordance with the procedures of the program.
1.2 Rounds, conferences, and family practice seminars are a required part of the program and residents are expected to
consistently attend them.
1.3 Residents are expected to satisfactorily complete all rotations.
1.4 Residents are expected to demonstrate competence appropriate to their level of training in the judgment of the faculty in the following areas: Management of patient care within the Mercy Family Health Center and Methodist Hospital, Mercy General Hospital and Mercy San Juan Hospital including management of primary care problems, management of normal
obstetrics, health maintenance, and the appropriate use of supervisors, consultants and community resources.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Experience/Education:
- Must have met all requirements and graduated from an ACGME-accredited Medical School, an accredited Osteopathic School or an international medical school recognized to meetlicensure requirements by the Medical Board of California.
Licensure:
- Certified ACLS, PALS and NRP within the first month of training.
