Robert Half Payroll Specialist in Sacramento, California

Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Payroll Specialist in Sacramento, California. In this role, you will be a key player in the accounting industry, handling a range of responsibilities related to payroll processing, compliance, and record-keeping.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the process of preparing, processing, and auditing semi-monthly payroll to ensure compliance with federal and state wage and hour regulations

• Handle year-end payroll processes including W-2s and year-end payroll reconciliation

• Administer new hires and payroll related changes within the payroll system

• Ensure all mandatory filings related to payroll are completed timely and accurately

• Provide assistance to staff by answering their queries related to the payroll process

• Manage the complex process of posting payroll entries in an intercompany environment

• Post monthly retirement accrual and intercompany payroll journal entries into the general ledger

• Reconcile intercompany payroll related general ledger accounts

• Assist in the reconciliation of employee benefits and benefit-related vendor premium invoices

• Perform responsibilities related to retirement plan such as processing employee contribution changes and calculating semi-monthly employer match

• Oversee the maintenance and management of the payroll and time expense billing system

• Provide training on time and attendance system to all new hires and current staff as needed

• Assist with writing and updating payroll process procedures and maintaining the payroll system to properly maintain audit workpapers for compliance with federal and state requirements. Requirements • Possess at least 5 years of experience in payroll management.

• Proficiency in accounting software systems is essential.

• Experience with ADP Financial Services is required.

• Understanding of ADP Workforce Now is necessary.

• Knowledge in 401k and RRSP administration is a must.

• Proven experience in processing semi-monthly payrolls.

• Familiarity with General Ledger accounting principles.

• Experience with Sage Intacct is preferred.

• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
