The anticipated salary range for this role is between $208,000.00 and $240,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

SUMMARY:

The Credit Risk Manager will own and manage onboarding and income verification strategies for the Unsecured Personal Loans product. The Credit Risk Manager will collaborate closely with cross functional partners across Marketing, Product, Technology, Operations and Compliance to shape new intent and ensure internal controls documentation is maintained completely and accurately. The Credit Risk Manager must attain an in-depth understanding of all aspects of the Jenius Bank personal loan business with expertise across offer eligibility, credit decisioning, verifications, control infrastructure, business execution and monitoring with ability to engage confidently and credibly with internal teams and external regulators.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead credit administration duties for process and procedure maintenance, audit requests, FDIC exams and remediation efforts, complaint investigation & responses, operations and vendor coordination.

  • Seek to continually improve the credit program and income verification process through strategic improvements, evaluation of alternative solutions, and implementation of key enhancements including planning, contract negotiations and implementation to ensure new solutions fully meet credit risk objectives.

  • Manage operational risk in credit underwriting through effective policies and procedures and ongoing management and interactions with all vendors utilized by the credit risk program.

  • Partner with Marketing, Product, Operations and Technology teams to ensure smooth execution and all key control requirements are met.

  • Ensure compliance with policies and requirements for all assigned responsibilities.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in quantitative fields

  • 10+ years of prior experience in consumer credit risk or similar quantitative role, preferably Unsecured Personal Loans

  • Advanced skills in SQL and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

  • Knowledge of consumer credit risk management practices and common data usage

  • Excellent critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal leaders and external regulators
