Merck Associate Director - Supply Chain Finance - Strategy and Design in Sacramento, California

Job Description

Our Sourcing team partner with the business to ensure efficient acquisition of goods and services that enables the commercialization of our medicines, vaccines and Animal Health products. We collaborate internationally and are grouped into center-led categories and regional operating teams

Position Description:

The Europe, Middle East, Africa- Japan, China, Asia Pacific (EMEA/JCAP) Payments Operations Lead is a Associate Director role that sits within the Travel Meetings Card & Fleet Sourcing and Operations Team. The role reports to the Director, Payment Services Strategy and is responsible for regional management of our Company’s Corporate Card programs, Supply Chain Finance program and other payments initiatives, in alignment with global strategy. The role will work in collaboration with Procurement, Finance, Treasury and other relevant regional business partners and stakeholders. The selected candidate will have the flexibility to within EMEA, remote, or within the US.

Specifically, the responsibilities of the role involve the following:

  • Strategy Development: The role is a core team member of the global Payments team and is responsible for supporting the strategy development, implementation and monitoring of the Payments strategy for EMEA and JCAP regions. The candidate is responsible for clearly representing the region’s requirements, unique attributes, issues and other statistics to ensure strategies consider and address local nuances and specifications. The candidate will align directly with the Travel Meetings Card & Fleet Operations Director and Regional Procurement.

  • Program Management: Lead all regional implementations and optimization efforts in collaboration with the local country operations and stakeholder teams. Drive efficiencies in the regional operations by supporting internal stakeholder and external supplier communications, ensuring awareness and understanding of the program(s) with an ultimate focus on driving a positive user experience ; reducing corporate card delinquency rates; establishing and reporting on program metrics.

  • Stakeholder Management and Alignment: Support Management with local / regional stakeholder engagement by providing data, reports and other solutions related to payments operations. Support collaboration with other regional business functions (Finance, Treasury, Source-to-Settle, Compliance, etc.) for initiatives, developing and supporting stakeholder initiatives, supporting profit planning process and facilitating achievement of business goals

  • Cardmember Communication: Proactively educate cardmembers via written communications and virtual onboarding sessions. Serve as the primary point of contact for card-related questions within the assigned region

  • Support the strategy and rollout of a Supply Chain Finance program to our Company's Suppliers, aligned with business objectives. Educate internal stakeholders on the value of the program; work with suppliers to align on value to their respective organizations. Support supplier onboarding process

  • Model and measure effectiveness of program in terms of impact to Cash Conversion Cycle, as well as increased spend with Small & Diverse Suppliers

Position Qualifications :

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Minimum of five (5) or more years in in corporate card administration, business analysis, finance, or related strategic procurement or Analytical/Business Intelligence role; or three years with an advanced degree

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills, reporting and data management skills

  • Experience with various spend analytics tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Strong communications and influencing skills

  • Proven ability to collaborate with a wide variety of individuals, including senior management, stakeholders, team members, other departments and suppliers

  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • MBA, MMS or MS in relevant field

  • 5+ Experience in payments operations

  • Experience in implementing corporate card programs

  • Experience with Supply Chain Financing

  • Six sigma training or green or black belt qualification a plus

  • Broad base payments category knowledge

  • Experience using Concur Expense Management Software

  • Experience using R, Stata or JMP
