GE Vernova Lead Electrical Engineer for Drive Upgrades in Rugby, United Kingdom

Job Description Summary

GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.

The Drives Upgrade Engineer role is considered a mid-career role within the business and expected to be an individual of broad technical capability across the range of products mentioned. This role combines office work with domestic and international travel. You will venture to client sites as a member of a cross-functional team carrying out upgrades and maintenance for our partners. Typical scope includes MV & LV drives, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and control as well as the associated power systems engineering.

Job Description

In this role you will focus on:

  • Designing, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and remotely diagnosing variable frequency drives and associated power equipment.

  • Performing troubleshooting activities at site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implements corrective actions.

  • Communicating progress of projects to Engineering management team.

  • Developing presentations and providing training and instruction to customers and GE employees on equipment operation and designs.

  • Participating and on occasions leading the design of customer upgrade projects.

We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent educational background.

  • Solid experience in heavy industry environment.

  • Knowledge of integrated control schemes with switchgear, protection, PLCs, HMI and Drives.

  • A deep understanding of power conversion principles for DC drives, LV PWM drives, MV PWM drives and LCI’s.

  • Experience with micro-controllers and low-level embedded programming principles.
