Our innovative technologies help industries operate more efficiently, sustainably, and safely. From optimizing energy use to ensuring the consistent quality of essential goods, Emerson’s solutions are integral to the global infrastructure driving progress. Here, your work will contribute to a more sustainable future where automation enhances everyday life and paves the way for sustainable industrial growth.

We’re looking for a highly motivated PCB Layout Engineer to join our team in Austin, Texas. In this role, you’ll collaborate with a dynamic, multi-disciplined team—spanning electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineering—to ensure our designs meet all functional, cost, and reliability requirements. You’ll be responsible for designing and developing printed circuit boards (PCBs) with a focus on board layout, design for manufacturability (DFM), and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Develop complex multi-layer PCB layouts based on schematic diagrams and design specifications.

  • Optimize board layouts for signal integrity, power integrity, thermal management, and mechanical constraints.

  • Use CAD tools such as Altium Designer to create and modify PCB designs.

  • Implement high-speed design techniques and manage routing of critical signal paths, differential pairs, and controlled impedance traces.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure that PCB designs are optimized for production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

  • Address and resolve DFM issues by making design adjustments to improve yield and reduce rework or scrap rates.

  • Develop and maintain DFM guidelines and best practices to streamline the manufacturing process.

  • Design PCBs with a strong emphasis on EMC compliance to minimize emissions and susceptibility.

  • Participate in EMC risk assessments during the design phase and implement mitigation techniques such as proper grounding, shielding, and filtering.

  • Work with EMC engineers to ensure designs meet industry standards and regulations, and make necessary adjustments based on test results.

  • Coordinate with mechanical engineers to ensure that the PCB design fits within the mechanical and thermal constraints of the product enclosure.

  • Liaise with manufacturing engineers to resolve any design-related issues during the prototyping and production stages.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting during the PCB fabrication and assembly process.

  • Generate and maintain detailed documentation for PCB designs, including design files, BOMs, assembly drawings, and test plans.

  • Continuously improve design processes and methodologies to enhance design quality and efficiency.

Who You Are:

You readily learn and adopt new technologies. You step up to handle tough issues. You effectively handle risk. You partner with others to get work done. You provide timely and helpful information to individuals across the organization.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • BS Electrical Engineering or similar degree

  • Proficiency in PCB design software (e.g., Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics, OrCAD, Allegro).

  • Knowledge of high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal design principles.

  • Exposure to DFM techniques and interaction with PCB manufacturers.

  • Basic understanding of electromagnetic theory and its practical application in PCB design.

  • Legal authorization to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

  • 2+ years of relevant working experience; OR practical experience in circuit design or PCB layout gained through Internships

  • Familiarity with IPC standards and PCB manufacturing processes

  • Strong understanding of EMC design principles and mitigation techniques.

  • Experience with developing products using Agile methodology

  • Experience in designing PCBs for industrial, automotive, aerospace, or medical applications.

  • Knowledge of high-speed design principles and layout techniques.

  • Understanding or experience with Distributed Control Systems or Safety Instrumented Systems
