SUMMARY: Under close supervision, performs a variety of unskilled tasks; cleans and maintains landscaping, grounds, buildings, and irrigation systems. Specific tasks may vary depending on area of assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Cleans and maintains landscaped areas; mows grass, and edges along sidewalks and buildings; cuts and trims trees and brush; rakes leaves; feeds leaves and brush into chipper. Collects trash, paper waste, and debris from around the facilities and grounds. Installs sprinkler and irrigation systems; repairs leak as needed. Depending on area of assignment, may be required to sweep rooms, clean walls, and wash windows of designated facilities and buildings. Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training, and Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Knowledge of: City and Department policies and procedures. Proper use of basic hand tools and small power tools. Safety policies, practices, and procedures. Skill in: Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Effective verbal and written communication; following instructions.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed at various facilities; requires constant physical efforts, and may be exposed to dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records, and other records deemed necessary. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility.
