At the Hydrologist 2 level the incumbent’s duties consist of supporting water resources engineering for highway projects which include:
Assist with preliminary and final water resources design and independently perform design tasks for drainage conveyance and stormwater treatment facilities, including wet ponds, sand filters, swales, infiltration basins, and green infrastructure facilities.
Prepare permit applications and coordinate with regulators on NPDES, DNR, COE, and Watershed District permits for highway projects.
Develop and review hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality models for existing and proposed project conditions.
Perform project scoping and cost estimating on water resources portions of proposed projects.7
Review plats, site plans, limited use permits, environmental documents, drainage permits and consultant prepared construction plans for water resources issues to ensure MnDOT concerns and requirements are satisfied.
Support water resources team in responding to requests from construction staff, the public and other MnDOT functional groups.
At the Hydrologist 1 level, the incumbent will assist in the duties listed above.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for the Hydrologist 2 position are as follows:
· Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Hydrology, Natural Resources Science, Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering or related field.
· Two or more years of professional experience in: design of drainage systems, stormwater treatment systems, erosion and sediment control SWPPPs and obtaining necessary watershed district, wetland, MPCA and DNR permits.
· Certification in Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Design within six months of hire.
· A valid Class D Driver’s License with NONE of the following: No major traffic convictions in the past 5 years; OR 4 or more minor violations in the last 3 years; OR any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.
In addition to the preceding qualifications, you will be assessed on the following during an interview:
· Human relations and communications skills sufficient to work with WRE, Design and Maintenance staff, as well as outside consulting firms on drainage design and permitting issues.
Minimum Qualifications for the Hydrologist 1 position are as follows:
· Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Hydrology, Natural Resources Science, Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering or related field.
· Ability to learn the design of drainage systems, stormwater treatment systems, erosion and sediment control SWPPPs and obtaining necessary watershed district, wetland, MPCA and DNR permits.
· Certification in Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Design within six months of hire.
