The Development Operations Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure and tools required to support the development, testing, deployment and maintenance of our bioinformatic software applications. Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Development Operations Engineer include but not limited to: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of robust continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, ensuring smooth, tested and automated software deployment. Implement best practices for configuration management, version control, and automated testing to enhance software quality and stability in collaboration with data science teams. Deploy, automate, maintain, manage and document AWS infrastructure to ensure security, performance, and availability of production systems using infrastructure as code. Refactor and provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in existing workflows. Assist in database development and maintenance from an infrastructure perspective. Work closely with bioinformatics team and wet-lab users on application scalability by having a deep understanding of software engineering, algorithms, and underlying hardware infrastructure and their impact on performance. Troubleshoot systems and problem-solve across platform and application domains. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient cloud infrastructure designs. Mentor and coach other team members in area of expertise Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or required. Requirements: Education and Experience: Four-year degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or other engineering discipline preferred. 3+ year of experience as AWS developer Strong understanding of core AWS services, uses, and basic AWS architecture best practices. Proficiency in developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications using AWS. Ability to use the AWS service APIs, AWS CLI, and SDKs to write applications using security best practices. CloudFormation, EC2, ECS, EBS, S3, Lambda, Cloud Watch, Container insight, CF templates, Terraform. SKILLS: Required: Management of AWS via infrastructure as code (IaC) (Terraform preferred) Git version control (Gitlab or Github) Software containerization (Docker and/or Singularity) Linux system administration Experience with Python package managers (Anaconda/Conda, pip, poetry) Strong in Bash and python scripting Preferred: Database management experience Experience optimizing pipelines processing hundreds of terabytes of data. Experience in FDA regulated, 21 CFR compliant systems. Experience with biological data Other Qualifications: Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.. Effective in both written and oral communication. This includes the ability to appropr ately inform and influence team members, coworkers, and executive leadership Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and delivery using Agile practices. Our Compensation and Benefits At Ferring, base salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $88,400 to $93,500, which is the reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount paid may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education and primary work location. Additional compensation for this role will be provided based on competitive annual incentive compensation targets in the form of an annual bonus - payouts are based on individual and company performance. Benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with a premium differential, inverse to base salary, to be paid by employees, a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, wellness benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, 40 hours of sick time, vacation time for full time employees to accrue up to 150 hours in the first four (4) years of employment, and 187.50 hours in the fifth (5th) year of employment as well as 12 to 13 paid holidays per year.
