As a Design Engineering Manager you will play a pivotal role in shaping our organization's success. You will work closely with our dedicated teams to develop effective solutions that align with CPC's strategic goals. You'll lead, manage and mentor a design engineering team that is creative, curious, talented and passionate. This role demands a balance of leadership and hands-on design engineering expertise to realize our forward-looking product roadmap. This role and the design engineering team collaborate closely with other departments including Product Management, Test, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Tooling, Research Lab, Prototyping Lab, Project Management, Product Engineering and IP to develop and improve solutions that solve our customers' challenges. Responsibilities: Manages the design engineering team and carries out responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, coaching and mentoring design engineers, planning work assignments, and appraising performance. Sets SMART objectives, evaluates progress against those objectives, and instills a sense of urgency, energy, agility and a performance-oriented culture. Advances our culture of inventiveness, collaboration, customer-focus, experimentation for fast learning and engineering excellence necessary for the transfer of robust designs to manufacturing/production. Provides technical oversight, approval, and review of all activities as it relates to new product development. Manages a budget along with project costs and capital expenditures. Continuously improves and defines critical design engineering workflows, WIs, SOPs, processes, methods and tools to accelerate robust design and new product development. Understands and monitors the IP landscape; ensures that novel ideas that may lead to breakthrough and incremental innovations are captured in invention disclosure submissions and novel ideas are converted into intellectual property and knowledge artifacts. Performs other job duties as assigned to meet business needs. Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering 3+ years of experience in mechanical/design engineering management or design engineering lead roles Strong background in design of high-volume injection molded components and highly engineered polymers Demonstrated history of working with customers/product management to collect voice of the customers, translate VOC into customer requirements, and eventually translate customer requirements into engineering requirements. Demonstrated history of rapid transforming ideas into proof-of-concepts (POCs), prototypes and minimum viable products (MVPs) Demons rated history of proactive ownership, focus on results, and actively prioritizing and managing competing demands Preferred Skills: Advanced engineering degree 8+ years of experience in design of precision high-volume injection molded components from engineering polymers Experience with design for manufacturing, design to cost, design for automation, structured problem solving, root cause analysis and other lean tools for robust design Experience and hands-on involvement in NPD project teams and multiple NPD cycles (from idea to launch/post-launch) Strong statistics skills to advance our culture of running small, affordable and well-planned experiments frequently to accelerate learning and adaptability which will help increase the commercialization speed. Individual compensation is based on skills, experience, and qualifications related to this position.
