THE POSITION

Douglas County Senior Services

Full Time Position includes excellent benefit package, PERS/OPSRP retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings program.

Onsite (Courthouse complex) childcare may be available at a discounted employee rate through Roseburg Professional Childcare (Fowler St. location only).

Job Summary:

This position will specialize in working with the OPI-M program and clients; performs social services case management by determining eligibility of senior citizens for service; evaluating and assessing needs; providing a wide variety of advice and referring senior citizens to other social service agencies; working within an inter-disciplinary team to provide appropriate service to senior citizens of Douglas County.

Essential Functions:

This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job.

  • Identify and assess senior citizens eligibility for Oregon Project Independence (OPI) and OPI-M.

  • Provide a wide variety of advice and assistance to senior citizens; provide information to senior citizens and their families of services available; serve as an advocate/liaison in assisting seniors in obtaining necessary social, medical, financial, psychological, educational and nutritional services.

  • Provide technical assistance, support, back-up coverage to senior services coordinators in delivery of information, care, health promotion and other nutrition and supportive services to senior citizens.

  • Serve as a member on an inter-disciplinary team to give and exchange information on senior citizens and provide or receive information; participate in staff meetings, workshops, continuing education classes and training activities.

  • Maintain and complete required records (including initial contact record, client employed service plan and care plan), reports and statistical data as required by departmental policy, federal and state law.

  • Assist in promoting community interest in opportunities and benefits to senior citizens and community support of the programs/activities.

  • Requires excellent customer service skills.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. however, the following is preferred:

  • Four years progressively responsible work-related experience in a senior service agency, social service agency

  • Bachelor's Degree in gerontology, psychology, social science or related field

Required

  • At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon Drivers License

  • Regular and consistent attendance

Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office environment; may require bending, hearing alarms and voice conversation, keyboarding, lifting up to 34 pounds, pulling, pushing, sitting, standing and walking.

Driving Requirements: Position requires daily driving. Finalist will be required to provide a driving history that meets theDouglas County Driver Policy (https://douglascounty-oregon.us/264/Driver-Policy) as part of contingent offer of employment.
