The Shipping Clerk is tasked with organizing and managing the shipping of goods to customers and other locations. This includes preparing shipping documents, arranging for transportation, verifying the accuracy of orders, and maintaining records of all shipments. The Shipping Clerk plays a crucial role in ensuring that products reach their destination safely and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
Order Preparation, Compliance & Safety:
- Accurately pick, pack, and label products for shipment.
- Ensure all outgoing shipments are properly packed to prevent damage during transit.
- Verify the accuracy of items being shipped by comparing shipping orders with contents and customer specifications.
- Ensure that all outgoing shipments comply with company policies, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Follow safety procedures when packaging hazardous or fragile materials.
- Keep the shipping area clean, organized, and free from hazards.
Communication & Inventory Control:
- Liaise with the warehouse, inventory control, and customer service teams to ensure shipments are prepared and dispatched according to customer requirements.
- Assist in managing and replenishing shipping supplies (boxes, labels, tape, etc.).
- Help with regular inventory counts and ensure the accuracy of shipping-related stock levels.
Skills & Qualifications:
- - High school diploma or equivalent (required). - 1-2 years of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations preferred. - Familiarity with warehouse management systems and shipping software. - Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing shipments. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Knowledge of shipping methods, procedures, and regulations. - Basic math and computer skills for record keeping and document preparation. - Ability to operate shipping and warehouse equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks).
Work Environment & Performance Metrics:
- Primarily works in a warehouse or shipping department.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry packages (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
- May require standing for extended periods and frequent bending or lifting.
- Exposure to varying warehouse environments, which could include cold or hot temperatures.
- Accuracy of prepared and shipped orders.
- Timeliness of outgoing shipments.
- Effectiveness in handling and resolving shipping-related issues.
- Compliance with safety and shipping regulations.
