Abbott Legal Clerk in Rome, Italy

Job Description

Legal Clerk’s primary role will be to provide legal advice to all divisions based in Italy, including diagnostics, nutrition and medical devices. He/she is based in Rome alongside the business divisions and reports to the Legal Head of Italy.

Role:

Individual to provide timely commercial legal advice and support to Abbott’s businesses based in Italy. Duties will include analysis and provision of simple and basic legal advice focused on business-oriented solutions on a wide range of matters, including general commercial agreements, public procurement advice, litigation tracking, Corporate governance and data protection law.

  • Communicates legal advice clearly and concisely to mid and junior levels of the organization.

  • Possesses excellent legal analysis skills and provide advices looking at the broader context and environment, using a 360° thinking approach.

  • Identifies basic legal issues related to assigned matters; proposes alternative solutions.

  • Negotiates independently on basic matters.

  • Resolves routine legal matters day to day in practice area with minimal supervision from more senior attorneys.

  • Resolves legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise.

Position Accountability/Scope

  • Advises Legal Head of Italy or other legal departments of critical project developments /matters in a timely manner.

  • Assigned matters may have a moderate impact on business activities and operations.

  • Advises mid and junior levels of the business across Italy.

Personal Aptitude

Candidates must be self-starters capable of taking the initiative to drive matters/projects through to a successful conclusion. Solid negotiating and persuasive skills coupled with excellent inter-personal and communicative skills. Whilst self-reliant, candidates will nonetheless be able to work as value adding, specialist contributors on cross-functional project teams. Candidates will be expected to quickly familiarize themselves with the business models and strategies of each business division and to build solid working relationships with business leaders and Abbott’s OEC, IFO, GA and HR functions.

Professional Qualifications and Work Experience

A qualified lawyer (with admission to Italian Bar ) with 3+ years of experience, preferably as in-house counsel. Preference will be given to candidates who had experience in a medical device/pharmaceutical/healthcare company. In particular, candidates must have experience in:

  • Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts (including but not limited to distribution agreements, agency agreements, provision of services agreements, confidentiality agreements);

  • Public procurement law advice and litigation;

  • Commercial litigation matters;

  • Data Protection/Privacy law matters;

  • Corporate governance.

Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to the above, can demonstrate experience in:

  • Medical devices or other healthcare product sector experience;

  • Consumer law matters;

  • Anti-bribery and corruption matters, including compliance programs under Law 231/2001 matters;

  • Anti-Trust/Competition law matters.
