The role you’ll contribute:

The Interventional Radiology Technologist – Advanced INR works in the highly-specialized Neuro-Interventional Angio Lab that caters to the needs of patients requiring constant monitoring and whose clinical conditions are considered critical. The Advanced Neuro-Interventional Tech is adept at responding to changes in patient condition that could lead to serious complications and providing immediate interventions as required. The tech is comfortable in operating and managing complex medical equipment and assisting physicians in the management of the patient. Under general supervision, the Interventional Neurology Radiology (INR) Technologist V performs sterile diagnostic, radiographic (IR), therapeutic endovascular (NI) and non-vascular interventional radiographic procedures and administers contrast agents at a technical level. Takes call as rotated/assigned and responds (in hospital) within 30 minutes. Provides safe care and processing of patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric. Actively participate in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth service standards.

[Clinical Competence] Performs diagnostic, radiographic (IR), therapeutic endovascular (NI) and non-vascular interventional radiographic procedures. Utilizes the knowledge and skills for age-specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective procedures on patients of all ages (neonate/infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatrics) to include the cerebral vasculature. Willing to learn/adapt to new technologies and protocols and help develop the knowledge and competency of co-workers and students. Addresses patient needs, questions and anxieties

[Data Processing & Supply Management] Inputs procedural charges into the computer system. Accurately records time data to meet hospital AHCA / DNV metrics as a comprehensive stroke center. Responsible to work hand in hand with physicians and supply chain to determine appropriate par levels and ensure necessary equipment is available

[Department Meeting Attendance] Attends department meetings consistently and promotes positive dialogue with respect to department objectives. Listens and is responsible to understand all agenda items. Attends quarterly meetings for stroke improvement processes

[Exam Supervision and Administration] Assists physician with sterile procedures, anticipates their needs and is knowledgeable of all necessary equipment and supplies. Ensures aseptic techniques are observed. Removes sheaths and holds arterial pressure until hemostasis. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirm patient/exam accuracy before administering exam. Confirms proper exam/patient before releasing images to PACS. Maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner. Participates in physiologic monitoring of patients. Performs manual and mechanical hemostasis, including the use of closure devices, as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner Places, maintains and removes peripherally inserted central catheters as prescribed by a licensed independent

[Image Quality and Documentation] Utilizes proper positioning criteria and technical exposure factors. Ensures study has correct patient demographics and RT/LT annotation when post processing. Advanced processing to include 3D manipulation, measurements, roadmaps, pixel shifting and overlay of images

[Performance Improvement] Participates in quality improvement initiatives while understanding the department performance trends and established standards. Participates in department patient satisfaction initiatives. Utilizes patient service recovery resources when appropriate. Actively participates in Neuro-Interventional Service Line Performance Improvement projects and demonstrates knowledge of the service line metrics. On an annual basis, completes at least one project with a goal of improving outcomes and quality for the care of the Neuro-Interventional patient. Responsible for assisting with the education of all new Neuro ICU nurses in the institute to expand knowledge of all INR procedures

[Personal Productivity and Accountability] Confirms proper exam/patient before releasing images to PACS. Assists healthcare team. Handles various job tasks simultaneously. Works to improve productivity by maintaining IR Suite ready status by preparing the Suite and equipment for the next procedure. Takes call as rotated/assigned and responds (in hospital) within 30 minutes. Team works collectively with the Lead Technologist for department scheduling to ensure 24/7 year-round coverage to provide acute stroke treatment for the community, team flexes based on volume. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department

[Safety and Environment of Care] Applies appropriate use of PPE: follows the OSHA/ AdventHealth facility Infection Control policies for handling blood or body substances, waste disposal for biohazardous and non-biohazardous waste and keeps a safe environment for patients, visitors and co-workers. Operates and maintains equipment in a safe manner. Participates in annual radiation exposure education. Properly wears Dosimeter badge and seeks to minimize radiation exposure. Uses Ray-safe to detect and ensure decreased amount of radiation exposure

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

  • Knowledge of procedure-specific equipment (Pneumbra system, AngioJet, Sonosite, etc.)

  • Extensive knowledge of product, compatibility and new stroke technology

  • Knowledge of Fluoroscopic equipment

  • Ability to learn and master new tasks related to Interventional Neuro- Radiology

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds

  • Independent judgment

  • Be able to anticipate physician needs

  • Ingenuity and initiative

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

· Associate Degree or Certificate in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program

· Completion of the AdventHealth Redmond dedicated Neuro-Interventional Training program, OR

· One-year comparable neuro interventional experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiography (or healthcare-related field)

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED :

· State license as a General Radiographer

· American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Radiography (ARRT (R))

· American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Vascular Interventional Radiology (ARRT (VI), or registry eligible on pathway to certification OR

· American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology (ARRT (CV) or registry eligible on pathway to certification

· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

· Basic Life Support (BLS)
