Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team in Rolling Meadows, IL.

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for Supplier Quality risk management. Develops and implements supplier quality evaluation and control systems. Assures supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance. Interfaces directly with supplier personnel and must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures. Conducts product and process verification activities, monitors supplier quality performance, and drives root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues. Supports the maintenance of the approved supplier list and periodically reviews supplier performance to determine whether suppliers should remain on the approved list. Manages supplier requests for waivers, deviations and discrepancy reporting process. Keeps management apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks. Coordinates and oversees Supplier Quality plan implementation through all program phases. Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) and as new procurements are required on existing programs. Manages implementation of Supplier Quality processes, including supplier approval activities, source selection evaluations, supplier classification designation (Critical, Key and Standard), development and execution of supplier quality risk assessments and mitigation plans, and supplier quality requirements development and flow-downs.

On days when not travelling to Suppliers remote work is available.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular Source inspections at various suppliers (mostly local suppliers multiple times a week)

  • Analyze supplier trends and respond accordingly with SCARs/ audits.

  • Conduct Root cause analysis (8D, 5Whys, and fishbone diagrams)and implement robust corrective actions when issues arise.

  • Perform supplier manufacturing process audits on regular basis.

  • Participate in Pre-FAI review, internal customer meetings and perform on-site FAI’s per AS9100.

  • Review drawing requirements/specs to understand what is needed for successful FAI at suppliers

  • Analyze/ present data for positive relationships with suppliers and internal teams.

  • Participate in Supplier’s qualification process audits.

  • Keep management aware of supplier performance, quality status, and risks.

Minimum requirements for a Principal Supplier Quality Engineer:

  • STEM Degree (B.S. or M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Material Science or Math.

  • Experience in GD&T.

  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience in engineering, manufacturing, operations, industrial engineering, quality engineering, supplier quality or Supply Chain environments.

  • Must be able to travel up to 35-50% of the time.

  • Must be able to support local source inspections at local suppliers multiple times a week will require driving to those suppliers’ sites or traveling in some instances.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management System certification process, GD&T, J-STD, Machining processes, coating process (including various types of plating), vacuum brazing, various manufacturing processes, and welding.

  • US Citizenship required.

Minimum requirements for a Sr. Principal Supplier Quality Engineer:

  • STEM Degree (B.S. or M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Material Science or Math.

  • Experience in GD&T.

  • Minimum 9+ years of related experience in engineering, manufacturing, operations, industrial engineering, quality engineering, supplier quality or Supply Chain environments.

  • Must be able to travel up to 35-50% of the time.

  • Must be able to support local source inspections at local suppliers multiple times a week will require driving to those suppliers’ sites or traveling in some instances.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

  • MBA with Supply Chain focus or M.S. in Supply Chain Management is a plus.

  • ASQ Certified.

  • Deep Experience in Brazing of Aluminum, mainly Vacuum Brazing and the specifications that governs brazing and heat-treat.

  • Familiar with NADCAP.

  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.

  • Deep Experience in Aluminum welding, brazing, coating, and machining preferably in the aerospace industry.

  • Working knowledge of SAP.

  • Superb communication, people and leadership skills.

  • Proficient with Excel/pivot tables and data analysis.

  • Must be able to analyze supplier’s quality trends and respond accordingly via SCARS or Audits.

  • Must have Strong communication and leadership skills. The Candidate must be able to work with multiple teams and be able to accommodate various styles in communications. Must be very customer oriented with great sense of urgency.

  • Must be independent and able to work with no or little supervision.

  • Must be able to maintain a very positive relationship with internal teams and external team especially with Suppliers.

  • Must be able to review drawings and 3D models to understand the parts and how they are made.

  • Must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.

MAQEA

Salary Range: $87,800.00 - $131,600.00Salary Range 2: $108,900.00 - $163,300.00

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
