University of Rochester Undergraduate Program Administrator in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University of Rochester is seeking a dynamic team member to serve as one of two Program Coordinators for the computer science undergraduate program. Housed in the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, the Department of Computer Science offers a B.A., B.S., and Honors B.S. in computer science. The undergraduate program has 600+ students enrolled in a major or minor, graduating roughly 150 students each year. URCS works closely with the College Center for Advising Services and Hajim Dean’s Office and collaborates across all Hajim academic departments and our sister department the Goergen Institute for Data Science in the School of Arts and Sciences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Advising

  • Provide academic advising and support to a large caseload of undergraduate students.

  • Proactively monitor academic progress and maintain an accurate record for advisees.

  • Oversee system to track undergraduate course registrations, add/drop forms, independent study contracts, petitions for departmental exceptions, and major declarations.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of academic structures and programs; reconcile degree audits to ensure students remain on track for graduation; generate academic action reports and CARE reports as appropriate.

  • Promote opportunities for, and track participation in undergraduate research, education abroad, and internship programs.

  • Collaborate with faculty in supporting undergraduate advising activities.

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of University, College, and departmental policies and procedures.

Administration and Data Management

  • Assist with the recruitment, assignment, and training of department teaching assistants.

  • Maintain undergraduate alumni database in cooperation with the Graduate Coordinator and the Office of Advancement.

  • Create marketing to publicize undergraduate events and special learning opportunities (internships, fellowships, study abroad, etc.).

  • Manage undergraduate curriculum including changes to degrees and semesterly course builds in UR Student.

  • Maintain data required to complete program assessments and external surveys.

  • Manage social media presence.

Other

  • Plan special events with students (hack-a-thon, open houses, programming team competitions, social events, and activities organized by student groups).

  • Identify students for award nominations and other special opportunities.

  • Advocate for diversity with UR Women and Minorities in Computing (UR WiCMiC) and Computer Science Undergraduate Council (CSUG).

  • Interact with prospective students and families and lead informational sessions on behalf of the Computer Science Department. Work cooperatively with the Admissions office.

  • Participate in monthly HSEAS Undergraduate Coordinators meetings and maintain communication with our allied departments.

  • Other duties as requested by the Department Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM, or education related field plus

  • 3 years of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with content management systems, and an ability to learn new systems. Knowledge and understanding of student information systems in a university setting preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe. Experience with Canva and Tableau a plus.

  • Excellent time management, organization, and ability to see assigned tasks through to completion; ability to effectively manage multiple projects and respond to complex and varied demands.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple constituents; excellent interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $51,810 - $72,534 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
