Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Rochester seeks applications for a tenure-track position in the area of audio and music engineering to start on July 1, 2025, or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Applicants must hold a doctorate in ECE or a related field by the time their faculty appointment begins.

Applicants are expected to excel in research and teaching in technical areas with a focus on audio, music and speech, including but not limited to signal processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, electroacoustics, acoustics, augmented and virtual reality, robotics and human­computer interaction. Applicants will teach in the Audio and Music Engineering (AME) program in the ECE department and must demonstrate ability or potential for teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The AME program and the ECE department offer a unique environment for interdisciplinary research and teaching at the intersection of engineering, science, and audio and musical arts. Together with the University's world-renowned Eastman School of Music, the AME program currently is leading the development of the new transdisciplinary Rochester Music and Sound Institute. The ECE department is also deeply engaged in the development of an Augmented and Virtual Reality Institute. The University ofRochester is home to a broad portfolio of sound-related research, including acoustics, auditory neuroscience, audiology, linguistics, speech communication, audio signal processing, audio machine learning, music theory and composition, and music cognition. Applicants will find rich opportunities for collaborative research with people outside ECE, including the Eastman School of Music, the Goergen Institute for Data Science, and schools and departments in education and health sciences.

Salary: $108,000- $112,000

The referenced pay range represents the full base range of pay for this job. Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range and established based on market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a PhD degree ( or equivalent) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and should have considerable research experience.
