TEKsystems Technology Support Specialist in Rochester, New York

Description:

TEKsystems' client is looking for a Technology Support Specialist to support in-house research computing systems, such as laboratory-run servers (Ubuntu Server) and computer-linked microscopes. and other lab equipment. All running on Unix workstations, this person must have experience installing UNIX, configuration, patching, etc.

This person will also provide traditional hardware & software desktop support to administrative machines, consisting of both Windows and Mac. Using HEAT as the current ticketing system. This person will provide support for Microsoft Office, Outlook, VPN/connectivity, hard drive replacements, etc.

Although strongly preferred, Desktop experience is not required. This person should minimally have the ability to understand the users issue, establish/communicate a solution with the user, and delegate the issue/ticket to another team member that can assist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for desktop systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues on Windows and Linux platforms.

  • Assist users with technical problems and provide timely solutions.

  • Perform routine maintenance and updates on desktop systems.

  • Collaborate with IT team members to ensure efficient operation of the IT environment.

  • Document technical issues and solutions for future reference.

  • Assist in the deployment and management of desktop hardware and software.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Desktop Support Technician or similar role.

  • Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Certification in IT support or related field is a plus.
