Job Description

Title: Staff Packaging Engineer

At Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., we are seeking a Staff Packaging Engineer to join our hard-working and driven team in Rochester. As part of our Laboratory Products Division, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on a global scale.

In this role, you will lead packaging design projects, collaborating with the Manager of Packaging Engineering and Specials. You will have the autonomy to design, test, analyze, and select materials for new packaging, as well as identify improvement opportunities for current packaging. Additionally, you will work with manufacturing facilities to enhance product packaging, address quality issues, and implement industry-standard distribution testing. You will also engage with resources and packaging suppliers to optimize packaging for customer experience, quality, manufacturing compatibility, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead packaging design and development for new products, including sustainable solutions

  • Develop and apply engineering design guides and standards

  • Ensure manufacturability of designs and collaborate with Engineering for equipment and fixture procurement

  • Support and develop consistent manufacturing and quality standards

  • Design product labels to customer requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Minimum 8 years of industry experience

  • Proficiency with packaging industry design and test standards (ISTA, ASTM, etc.)

  • Knowledge of sterile barrier packaging and sterilization processes

  • Strong understanding of medical device packaging, manufacturing practices, and test methods

  • Experience with packaging equipment process qualifications and project qualification activities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and CAD software (Solidworks, ArtiosCAD)

  • Container leak testing experience

  • Strong analytical, planning, and interpersonal skills

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $88,000.00–$126,500.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
