Function of Position:

The Manager leads the programming, administrative, and customer service oversight for Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies learning. This position is responsible for program development, coordination, and budget management of training programs for Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies within the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center (FWD Center) located at MCC's Downtown Campus. The Manager also assists other instructors with the development and implementation of teaching methods, educational materials, and the utilization of instructional technology to enhance learning. A key responsibility of this position is the development, coordination, and potential instruction of short cycle training solutions facing the Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies sector and skill gaps/workforce opportunities. Other key operational responsibilities include advancing customer relations with participating agencies and clients, managing financial operations of the in-service program, and coordinating the registration of in-service courses. Programming encompasses smart factory, mechatronics, robotics, PLCs, VFDs, Hydraulics & Pneumatics, Ethernet communications, motor controls, and other Industry 4.0 disciplines. The Manager reports to the Director, Skilled Trades & Industrial Technology.

*This is a temporary position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of college budget and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

Primary Functions:

  • Serves as the management lead for programming, delivery, and administration of learning in the Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies area of the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center (FWD Center).

  • Coordinates all aspects of a course from its development, creation of instructional materials, promotion of the course, obtaining necessary resources, identifying and scheduling instructors.

  • Manages the Advanced Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 training budget.

  • Assists instructors and other course developers related to instructional design and the implementation of technology in learning, including, but not limited to, adult learning methodology, lesson plan development, student exercises development, student assessments, and multimedia learning resources.

  • Identifies future needs and trends in Industry 4.0 and proposes solutions to meet those needs by developing and implementing new educational programs and/or training initiative; seeks grant funding as appropriate.

  • Builds and expands strategic relationships with educational, community, and business partners to foster interest and recruit talent to Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies.

  • Maintains and builds relationships with business and industry, governmental agencies, community organizations and workforce development partners to ensure quality and relevance to programs.

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical systems and components including hydraulics and pneumatics, smart factory, and robotics equipment.

  • Applies principles of customer service to the agencies served by the program.

  • Ensures compliance with New York State Department of Labor Apprenticeship Related Instruction requirements.

  • Maintains awareness of emerging technologies trends and issues.

  • Performs all responsibilities of the position either independently or as a member of a team.

  • Represents the EDIWS Division to other groups and professional organizations.

  • Performs other functions as assigned by the Director, Skilled Trades & Industrial Technology.

Secondary Functions:

  • Serves in an instructional capacity for training in the Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies programs delivered in the FWD Center or with corporate clients, as appropriate to the Manager's experience, subject matter expertise, and credentials, as needed or required.

  • Performs all responsibilities of the position either independently or as a member of a team.

  • Seeks grant funding as appropriate.

  • Represents the EDIWS Division to other groups and professional organizations.

  • Supervises technical assistant(s), and other support personnel as required.

  • Maintains documentation of training, objectives, lesson plans, media, and testing instruments for programs as required.

  • Engages industry and assembly of advisory committees in an effort to develop and maintain relevant content.

  • Performs other functions as assigned by the Director, Skilled Trades & Industrial Technology.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in mechanical/electrical technology or related field experience from a regionally accredited higher education institution with five years' experience; or possess a Journeyman's card/certificate from a formal Apprenticeship Program; or a minimum 10-years' experience in appropriate industrial setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical systems and components including hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Ability to teach courses in the Mechatronics Program

  • Commitment to supporting an equitable, inclusive environment on campus.

  • Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.

  • Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies (industry trainings are acceptable).

  • Thorough background on programmable logic controllers and ladder logic.

  • Evidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, and writing) skills.

  • Classroom and administrative technology proficiency; MS Office tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field and/or education from a regionally accredited higher education institution.

  • Ability to teach courses in Mechatronics, Robotics, and/or Smart Factory/Industry 4.0 technologies.

  • Experience and/or interest in teaching online courses.

  • College-level teaching experience

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.

    Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $65,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
