Ability to employ critical thinking skills Able to excel at troubleshooting Observes mechanical devices in operation to diagnose and /or troubleshoot problems or breakdowns. Dismantles machinery and/or equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. Initiates purchase order for parts, equipment, and outside services. Repairs all mechanical and minor electrical equipment. Ability to use power and hand tools. Other duties may be assigned. Must have strong mechanical aptitude and valid NYS drivers license. Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school Three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to compute rate and percent and apply concepts such as fractions, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
