University of Rochester Laboratory Technician III (S) in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position provides direct research support at the professional level, and directly participates in all major aspects of research projects within the lab of Dr. Felix Yarovinsky. A major focus of the Yarovinsky lab is to determine how intestinal bacteria regulate immunity to pathogens using mouse models.

Responsibilities :

  • Manages the mice used in the lab including routine and non-routine breeding colonies, tissue collection and other experiments as needed. This will involve performing specialized procedures on mice, and maintaining records, data collection, and analysis

  • Performs PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, or related techniques and cell culture

  • Participates in weekly lab meetings and relevant seminars, including regular meetings with the PI to review data, propose experiments and discuss analysis.

  • Maintains standard protocols, troubleshoots, and modifies them as needed

  • Assists in the management of the laboratory's reagent inventory, including reagents necessary for day-to-day laboratory operations; keep research supplies stocked.

  • Prepares schematics, specifications, designs, etc.; makes recommendations regarding them. May review work of less experienced staff, such as graduate and undergraduate students. Helps to orient new lab staff to the lab.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree with research experience/technical knowledge of cell culture as well as basic molecular and cellular techniques is preferred

  • Candidate must be willing to work with mice

  • Ability to adjust research priorities as needed and be willing to present, discuss, and troubleshoot data with the PI and co-workers

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written

  • Experience in Microsoft Office is required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 16.49 - $ 23.08 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
