University of Rochester Laboratory Technician III (S) in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mezu-Ndubuisi lab is seeking a lab technician/research to assist Principal Investigator in the Department of Pediatrics and Ophthalmology in conducting basic science and clinical research.

Primary onsite lab duties involve small animal care and handling, monitoring oxygen exposure in hyperoxia chamber, animal injections (intraperitoneal, intravitreal). Secondary duties include ocular imaging (fluorescein angiography, spectral domain optical tomography, electroretinography), animal tissue extraction for further histological studies (immunohistochemistry, ELISA, qPCR’s, Western Blot, flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, microarray). Additional primary duties include laboratory data organization and analysis, and assisting with literature search and grant funding applications. Training will be provided.

Ideal candidates will have experience directly managing and supervising research projects throughout a project lifecycle. Candidate must be detail-orientated, self-motivated, a quick learner, collaborate well with team members, and have excellent problem-solving skills. You will be working in a collaborative environment that will enable you to continuously improve yourself, and assist us in working on challenges that truly matter with people that care for each other. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Animal care, breeding, exposure to oxygen, injections

  • Retinal Imaging

  • Tissue extraction and processing, histology, molecular studies

  • Data organization, analysis, literature review, assisting with grant-funding applications

  • Lab management and record keeping, supervising trainees

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • At least 2-3 years experience in a laboratory setting

  • Must be fluent with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Access). Endnote or other reference manager skills preferred, but not required. Experience with statistical and data management programs and knowledge of MATLAB, Image J, and qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis (GraphPad, Stata) is an asset, but not required.

  • Bachelor's degree/diploma required, area of specialization preferred but not limited in cell/molecular biology, vision science, biochemistry, genetics, biology, or related field.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 16.49 - $ 23.08 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
