University of Rochester Laboratory Technician III (S) in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This is a Technical position within the Eliseev Laboratory in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research. The job consists of laboratory work using complex genetic mouse models and primary cell culture systems to understand bone physiology and disease. This position requires some basic experience with mouse handling, molecular biology skills (PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, etc.), cell culture skills (mammalian cell culture, transfection), experience in data analysis/interpretation, and careful attention to detail. Hours of the position are 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday (flexible).

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Breed, maintain, and genotype mice for multiple projects within the labs and keep detailed electronic inventory records of the mouse colonies. Perform surgical procedures such as the tibia fracture for the support of ongoing research projects. (20% effort)

  • Dissection of mouse skeletal tissues, sectioning of paraffin or frozen tissues, histological staining, histomorphometry, and immunohistochemistry for ongoing research projects. (20% effort)

  • Isolation, culture, and transfection of primary skeletal cells and cell lines (osteoblasts, chondrocytes, mesenchymal progenitor cells) for the support of ongoing research projects. (20% effort)

  • Isolation and analysis of RNA and protein from cell cultures via real time quantitative PCR and Western blotting, respectively. (20%)

  • Maintenance of a detailed lab notebook with experimental detail, methods, data compilation and data analysis and interpretation included. (20%)

Qualifications:

Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 16.49 - $ 23.08 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
