Function of Position:
The Camp Health Assistant works closely with the Health Director/Nurse in the Health office. They are responsible for working with all campers and staff in relation to health and safety of all individuals involved in the Healthy Hero camp. Health Assistant plays a key role in working directly with campers who feel unwell or experience injury during camp hours. They will manage care, document care provided, contact family members if needed and made final determination if camper or employee can return to daily activities.
This staff member will work with Health Director/Nurse in the acceptance of all medications from parents, store medicines in a secure location and provide medication to campers as directed by physician. They will also be required to understand and interpret all medical documents, immunization status and review medicinal needs of each camper.
Health Assistant will participate in all Camp Orientations and training. They will work closely with camp leadership to ensure high quality health services to all staff and students participating in camp. To succeed, the candidate should be upbeat, decisive, and responsible as well as have excellent communication, documentation, organizational skills and enjoy working with children and young adults.
*This is a temporary, grant funded position.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
- Review, understand and approve all medical documentation provided by physicians for campers.
- Collect, safely store and issue medicine to campers, as medical documentation directs.
- Communicate with campers' parents when needed.
- Document all interactions with campers, staff and parents/guardians.
- Inventory medical supplies and ensure health office is adequately supplied at all times.
- Work closely with camp leadership concerning any health-related or safety concern.
- Maintain appropriate supply of extra clothing to be used when campers need a change of clothing.
- Identify and report camper behavior issues.
- Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
- Report concerns of campers' experiences to Camp Leadership.
- Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas.
- Memorize emergency procedures and enforce all camp rules.
- Participate in Camp trainings and orientation.
- Ability to take direction from Camp Leadership.
- Ability to work well with other staff members of all levels of camp staff

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- 3 years' experience working with school-aged children.
- Upon hire, completion of Healthy Hero Camp Orientation and training
Preferred Qualifications:
- Upbeat, positive and engaging personality.
- Interest in working with school aged children.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks.
- Strong age-appropriate organizational and communication skills
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Dates of temporary assignment: MCC Healthy Hero Camps operation: June 30, 2025 - August 1, 2025. (Closed July 4, 2025). The Co-Director of Academics will work each of these days.
Hours: Camp Hours are 7:45am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Salary: $7,000
