Job Responsibilities:

Typical functions include the following:

  • Lead and plan research/engineering support technical tasks by determining work priorities

  • Lead identifying options and developing solutions for unique or unprecedented situations

  • Develop standard operating procedures and protocols

  • Conduct literature review, research, and publish

  • Set up, coordinate, and perform technical/engineering experiments

  • Evaluate, analyze, and interpret collected data; prepare reports, analyze, and make recommendations or conclusions to support research/engineering activities

  • Collect user requirements, recommend design elements, and build navigation components.

  • Act as a subject matter expert in extended, mixed, augmented, and virtual reality (XR/AR/VR) with a focus on accessible and inclusive experience for deaf individuals of all abilities

  • Assist with the transcribing semi-structured interviews and participant dialogue to written English, and marketing materials for dissemination purpose

  • Work closely with key stakeholders in designing solutions, deploying programs and evaluating user feedback

  • Support a team of experts (students and staff) to brainstorm, provide directions, and track progress in various projects to ensure quality deliverables with the best possible user experience in a timely fashion

  • Assist in undergraduate and graduate students supervision

  • Ensure all project and organization information remains confidential throughout every step of the process

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Human-Centered Computing, Human-Computer Interaction, New Media Interactive Development, Computer Engineering, or related field

  • One year of experience in UX/UI, computing, engineering, accessibility focused projects, or related experience

OR

  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Skills:

  • Skill in leading technical projects and leading work of others.

  • Expert knowledge of data collection, validation, interpretation, databases, and analysis.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, find solutions, persevere through complex tasks, and communicate effectively with a wide range of deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

  • Teamwork skills required to collaborate with a team of investigators, research staff, and student employees.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge of Responsible Conduct of Research and IRB protocols.

  • Prior publication and manuscript writing experience.

  • Knowledge of digital survey and data collection instruments, such as REDCap and Qualtrics.

  • Knowledge to perform simple repetitive tasks related to a scientific or engineering field.

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory/research/engineering techniques, equipment and terminology.

Job Summary:

This is a grant funded Part-Time position (20/hrs. 45/weeks), and renewed annually depending on external funding.

XR Accessibility Solutions Laboratory (XR-ASL) specializes on real-time, immersive, and interactive technologies such as mixed, augmented, and virtual reality with a focus on accessible and inclusive experience for deaf individuals of all abilities and empower them to achieve equal footing in different environments and communities.

Under close supervision, the successful applicant will assist NTID faculty member with scientific/engineering research studies for dissemination purposes. The position is renewable depending upon the availability of funding and other conditions. The person will contribute to XR ASL’s efforts in improving the accessibility needs, especially deaf and hard of hearing individuals through innovative access technologies. This includes working with faculty, researchers, staff, and students in the conceptualization, design, development, testing and building of engineering/software related projects and apps. The person will assist in undergraduate and graduate students supervision. Also, the person will assist in laboratory management. Reports to the NTID XR ASL Director.
