The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Implements, tests, troubleshoots and improves electronic automation and controls systems in manufacturing/production/operations processes to increase production quality, efficiency and volume. Checks control system schematics and specifications and uses software and testing equipment to diagnose and resolve system malfunctions. Develops and defines control system applications for various machinery and equipment using technologies or platforms such as ladder logic programming for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human machine interfaces (HMIs), data control systems (DCSs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), computerized numerical control (CNC) systems or motion control technology.

Position Summary:
The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research and education in science and technology focusing on using lasers to initiate fusion and high energy density physics.
The LLE Electronics and Controls Engineering group is seeking an electronics technician to assist engineers to develop and build analog/digital circuitry applied to electro-optics, experimental apparatus, and control systems. The candidate should have at a minimum an AAS or AOS degree in Electronic Technology or a related field, and 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
Requirements include a hands-on knowledge of the following:
Assembly and testing of both prototype and production circuit boards
Troubleshooting down to the component level
Mechanical and electrical chassis fabrication and wiring from documentation
CAD schematic familiarity
Strong soldering skills
Cabling and harness fabrication
Familiarity with digital multimeters and test equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude
Desired skills or experience includes:
Strong documentation skills
Attention to detail
Curiosity and a desire to learn new concepts, skills, and techniques
