Function of Position:
The Healthy Hero Dean of Camp is responsible for supporting all camp activities, participating in core programs and working directly with students attending the camp, Counselors and volunteers. Responsible for general safety, development, growth and skill achievement of the campers.
The Dean will work directly with counselors, teachers, administrative staff, and MCC employees. The successful candidate will work to ensure all participants are successful, safe and identify potential problems throughout the camp operation.
The Dean works closely with RochesterWorks to identify, recruit, interview and train our Junior Counselor staff who work full-time for the camp. These staff members are hired through RochesterWorks and is usually their first job. The Dean teaches this team how to work with our young campers, answer questions, monitor staff behavior and model excellent behavior in his or her own daily work.
A key role of the Dean of Camp is to work with staff in identifying, managing and solving behavioral issues with campers and staff. The Dean will identify or work with campers referred by counselors when behavioral or performance issues arise. The role will document all interactions and develop a plan of improvement so that the staff member or camper can continue their camp attendance. All interactions related to discipline with counselors or students must be thoroughly documented and shared with the Co-Director of Academics each day.
To succeed as Dean of Camp, a candidate should have excellent communication and teaching/training skills, enjoy working with young adults and elementary grade students. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to multi-task throughout a very busy day staying in touch with all Junior Counselor staff.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage discipline of campers reported for poor behavior or rule breaking. Work directly with campers to identify problems and build a plan for continued positive camp involvement. In cases where the camper must be dismissed, Camp Dean will notify the Academic Director and the parents of the camper. All disciplinary interactions are documented daily.
Report concerns of campers' experiences to Camp Leadership.
Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, and logbook documentation.
Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers' safety and their whereabouts at all times.
Memorize emergency procedures and enforce all camp rules.
Lead and participate in camp training and orientation.
Significant use of Campdoc software.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, or higher, and 3 years' experience working with school-aged children
Upon hire, completion of Healthy Hero Camp Orientation and training.
Upbeat, positive and engaging personality.
Ability to work with the management team to create a successful camp.
Ability to manage behavioral concerns with campers, in conjunction with Co-Director of Academics.
Interest in working with school aged children.
Ability to assist in the implementation of program activities.
Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

Job Type: Grant funded, temporary
MCC Healthy Hero Camps operation: This temporary assignment runs June 30, 2025 - August 1, 2025. (Closed July 4, 2025)
Schedule/Hours: Camp Hours are 7:45am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Camp Dean will work each of these days. In addition to these required hours, the Dean will begin staff recruitment and working directly with RochesterWorks staff as early as February 2025.
Salary: $7,000
