Responsibilities

Job Description:

University of Rochester, Flaum Eye Institute, a large and rapidly growing academic practice in Rochester New York, has an opening for an Ophthalmic Photography lntern. This candidate will be able to learn alongside of the diagnostic team and will be primarily be responsible for technical testing, clinical support and patient care for various physicians and sub-specialties in the eye institute. By the end of the Internship, the student will have the knowledge to use and maintain state-of-the-art equipment. They will also have the opportunity to observe and perform clinical and research imaging including: fluorescein and ICG angiography, fundus photography, anterior and posterior segment OCT, slit lamp and external photography, fundus auto-fluorescence, videography etc. in support of the following sub - specialties: retina, glaucoma, cornea, comprehensive, uveitis, pediatrics, neuro-op, oculo-facial plastics, and refractive.

Requirements:

  • Must have taken the first semester of Ophthalmic Photography at RlT.

  • Must have good working knowledge of general camera equipment such as sensors, flashes, lenses, etc.

  • Experience or willingness to learn technical testing including but not limited to: visual field, electro-physiology, ultra-sonography, and biometry.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, and co-workers. Must be a strong team player.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issues.

  • Ability to effectively handle challenging situations.

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills, trouble shooting and problem solving, and ability to learn and adopt new software applications and technology

  • Ability to use select software applications, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Video Editing Application

Justification for RIT Summer Coop at FEI/SMH Diagnostic Testing Group

The Flaum Eye Institute and University of Rochester Department of Ophthalmology are interested in developing a collaborative relationship with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and specifically the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences - Biomedical Photographic Communications program to host a Cooperative Educational Experience (Coop). A Coop is a requirement of the Bachelors of Science Biomed Photo Program. The Coop provides the student with real world experience where they learn to apply their skills, knowledge, and education.

The Coop experience fits within the overall mission of FEI and the University of Rochester Medical Center as a teaching institution. FEI/Ophthalmology and the members of the Diagnostic Imaging Team at FEI understand the needs and benefits of a Coop. These include:

  • Developing a collaborative relationship with the Ophthalmic Imaging Program at RIT

  • Raising the level of the profession through the hands on, one on one activities that occur during a coop

  • Building a pipeline for recruitment as positions open within the department Providing time off coverage for FTE during the summer

Pay Range

Pay Range: $17.00 - $22.10 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
