Town of Irondequoit Building Maintenance Foreman in Rochester, New York

JOB SUMMARY:
This is a supervisory janitorial position responsible for the proper cleaning and minor maintenance of several buildings. Work further involves overseeing office moves including furniture and equipment. The employee reports directly to and works under general supervision from the Town Supervisor. Direct supervision is exercised over a cleaning staff. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Instructs subordinates in the use of building cleaning supplies, materials and equipment; Plans work schedules and resolves staffing problems; Places orders for custodial suppliers and maintains inventory records; Evaluates products and equipment and recommends for purchase; Inspects the cleaning and maintenance work performed by subordinates; Oversees and participates in the performance of a variety of janitorial tasks; Oversees and participates in minor building repairs involving carpentry, and plumbing; Oversees the moving of office furniture and equipment as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Thorough knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to order supplies and keep inventory; ability to inspect the work of a subordinate staff; ability to oversee and perform janitorial tasks and minor building repairs; ability to give and receive oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience involving janitorial or building maintenance activities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates for employment with Town of Irondequoit will be required to pass a pre-employment background investigation. Failure to meet the standards may result in disqualification.

CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION: Competitive, Provisional* (*The term provisional means that you will be required to take the next Civil Service examination for this title, and place among the top three (3) candidates on the examination list in order to be eligible for permanent appointment.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Applicant must be a resident of Monroe County at the time of appointment.
