Monroe Community College Assistant Director, Student Life and Leadership Development in Rochester, New York

Function of Position:

This position will serve as a key member of Student Life and Leadership Development. This position will oversee, develop, and implement a comprehensive Leadership Education And Development (LEAD) program. This position will create collaborate partnerships with Student and Academic Services to provide educational, cultural, and social programs that will assist with student retention, persistence, and leadership development. This position reports to the Director of Student Life and Leadership Development. The position may require some evening and weekend hours.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Oversee, develop, and implement the Leadership Education And Development (LEAD) program.

  • Align with division departments (e.g., Schools and Guided Pathways, Admissions, and the Career Center).

  • Oversee the development of current and future resources for the Leadership Library.

  • Supervise the operations and staff for the Center for Outreach and Volunteer Engagement (COVE).

  • Management of Doing What is Good and Healthy Together (DWIGHT), the food cupboard. Work with college-wide departments and community organizations to find resources for DWIGHT.

  • Assist with the College-wide coaching model that supports student success.

  • Identify and organize College-wide departmental programs, such as an open house.

  • Serve as a department liaison to clubs and organizations.

  • Supervise one staff member.

  • Supervise the Student Ambassadors.

  • Assist with supervision of graduate interns.

  • Serve as the Director in their absence.

  • Provide leadership with recruitment and retention of a comprehensive student leader certificate program, the Emerging Leader Program, LEAD Certificate, student leader training, and annual retreats.

  • Serves as the main contact for the National Society of Leadership Success (NSLS)Honor Society. Organize and facilitate the workshops, budget, scholarships and induction ceremony.

  • Assist with the support, development, and implementation of college-wide retention efforts.

  • Meet with department team members and collaborate on student programs for the College community.

  • Participate as a team member in the development of annual goals and budgets, and assist with supervision of Student Life and Leadership Development.

  • Assist with the development of departmental marketing materials, including social media and community engagement.

  • Participate in the development of department strategies, implementation, and assessment.

  • Work with the Director to develop College and MCC Association budgets.

  • Work with the MCC Foundation to develop student leader scholarships.

  • Assist the Director with Downtown Campus and Applied Technology Center supervision and staffing.

  • Assist with faculty advisor supervision and training.

  • Serve as the department liaison with Admissions for recruitment, orientation, and First Year Experience.

Secondary Functions:

  • Participate in College-wide committees, as appropriate or requested.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree in higher education, student development, or a related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution

  • Two to five (2-5) years of experience in a higher education institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree or higher in higher education or a related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

    Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $65,000 to $75,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
