Responsibilities

The inpatient pharmacist position will support the Emergency Department at Mayo Clinic Hospital – St. Mary’s in Rochester, MN. In this role, the pharmacist provides exceptional care to patients in our emergency department.

Job responsibilities for ED pharmacists include providing quality, comprehensive bedside patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team, and response to house-wide medical codes. Clinical services consist of direct patient care at the bedside, recommendations regarding drug therapy, and identification of drug-related problems. Situational awareness and task prioritization in the ED are enhanced through electronic automated alerts for resuscitations (e.g. trauma, medical, stroke, STEMI, toxicology, procedural sedation, intubation). Active participation in medical decision-making is expected, valued, and carried out through progressive collaborative practice agreements in the ED. Pharmacists partake in medication ordering and drug preparation in emergent situations to facilitate patient care. Clinical consultations and participation in resuscitations through emergency telepharmacy and telemedicine services support ED providers in the regional health care system. Providing didactic lectures, simulation training and orientation for ED multidisciplinary team members is expected, as is precepting of pharmacy students, PGY1, and PGY2 EM and critical care specialty learners.

Academic appointment and progression through academic rank, involvement in scholarly activities including quality initiatives, and multidisciplinary research are encouraged and supported through extensive institutional and departmental resources.
