FANUC America Corporation (FAC) is currently searching for a Senior Engineer – CNC (ROBODRILL) Process/Toolingto be responsible for developing manufacturing concepts, designs, and builds of equipment as well as integration and installation of equipment. The Senior Process/Tooling Engineer functions as a point of contact for technical issues related to mechanical, hydraulic, and process engineering of ROBODRILL applications; and is responsible for supporting tasks required to process the customer’s product in a cost effective manner with attention to safety, part quality, machine fixturing, tooling, operation, and ergonomic issues. Primary responsibilities will include:
Reviews customer request and specifications to obtain complete understanding of the required machining process and develops initial concepts.
Assists in cost estimating and development of budget
Generate sketches and drawings for part fixturing concepts as required.
Develops machining sequences listing number of tools anticipated; calculates feeds and speeds for each tool sequence; creates an event timing chart.
Provides technical expertise in final process/tooling selection.
Develops written process sheets and descriptions of the machining requirements for part(s) and initial CNC part programs.
Provides consultation to customers, sales and system engineering regarding how to optimally apply FAC equipment and process
Reviews and finalizes mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and machining documentation.
Participates in meetings to discuss technical issues associated with projects.
Coordinates the completion of tool layout engineering in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Solicit quotes from FAC suppliers for fixturing and tooling needed to machine/process the part.
Responsible for line-up of outside design/build sources for quotations and then review with the design department
Enter requisitions for outside design and build and monitor all inside and outside design and build progress.
Generate runoff criteria & coordinate the buyoff of equipment built by approved suppliers prior to shipment to FANUC Robotics
Maintains schedules for tooling and fixture completion in accordance with program timing, and maintains tooling and fixturing costs at or below budget.
Reviews and approves tool drawings.
Investigates and assists with implementation of new tooling applications as appropriate.
Conducts customer on-site trouble shooting including tool life studies, new tool development and process capability studies.
Generate run-off documentation as it relates to process engineering activities
Develop and generate preventative maintenance, system specific, and equipment operations manuals, and recommended tooling/fixturing spare parts lists.
Support integration, installation, debug, and customer plant buyoff activities.
Ensure as-built documentation package is delivered to the customer
Visits customer facility and interacts with customers regarding part requirements, equipment and processes, application analysis, field measurements, general needs analysis, installation needs, and warranty support.
Ideal candidate will have the following experience/skills and education:
Minimum five years of experience with machine tool and industrial machining, with mechanical system knowledge.
Experience developing manufacturing concepts, proposals, designs for engineering, tooling, and manufacturing processing from conception through manufacture of products.
Strong CNC machining, tooling, and fixturing knowledge.
Familiarity with 3D work cell and discrete-event simulation methods.
Familiar with offline programming environment for CNC part programming.
Demonstrated ability to:
Work with all cutting tool materials.
Perform cutting tool calculations relative to feeds, speeds, horse power and thrust in various material types and determining resultant part quality and tool life.
Predict tool performance prior to the initial tool layout design process and solving tooling issues or problems during the customer run off process.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD (v2000i or higher), SolidWorks, and/or Mastercam preferred.
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
