LifePoint Health OPSU/Recovery Room Supervisor in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time OPSU/Recovery Room Supervisor.This position is a professional registered nurse who is accountable for planning, staffing, directing, and evaluating services in the Recovery Room and Outpatient Surgery Unit along with the Director of Surgical Services. It has the responsibility for coordinating the care of patients, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served, while in the Recovery Room/SDU in accordance with policies, procedures, standards of the Hospital and department. The position is responsible for making supervisory decisions in a clinical setting.

Essential Functions:

Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates services in the Recovery Room and OPSU in accordance with the philosophy and

objectives of the hospital.

Supervises and evaluated the activities of RR/ OPSU personnel engaged in patient care, and ensures that such personnel are properly trained

and qualified to perform their responsibilities, as appropriate to the patients served.

Directs and maintains compliance with Hospital policies, procedures, and other standards and regulations.

Promotes high quality patient care.

Establishes good working rapport with Director of Surgical Services, Anesthesiologist, and all Administration throughout the hospital.

Carries out plans and objectives in order to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of RR/OPSU services.

Maintains effective communications and promotes efficient interdepartmental working relationships.

Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of equipment and procedures used in the RR/OPSU.

Accurately completes all reports, forms, and permits in a timely manner.

Utilizes effective cost management.

Provides orientation for personnel. Assists in teaching and training RR/OPSU personnel.

Integrates education into the accomplishment of the goals and standards of the RR/OPSU.

Implements departmental changes as assigned.

Maintains and environment conductive to the well-being of both the patient and staff.

Prepares work schedules while maintaining an appropriate FTE level in accordance with productivity standards. Schedules are appropriate to

the volume and types of cases.

Oversees RR/OPSU continuing education program to keep staff abreast of hospital changes, departmental updates, or technology/equipment changes.

Manages departmental staff effectively and efficiently through performance evaluations, and counseling, when necessary. Monitors productivity

and quality.

Works cooperatively with OR personnel to provide quality patient care.

Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the RR/OPSU.

Assists personnel in developing, implementing, and updating nursing care of the post-operative patient. Coordinates and administer nursing

care.

Periodically reviews and revises unit philosophy and objectives, manuals, and position responsibilities.

Acts as a resource person to assist the staff with the interpretation of policies and procedures.

Provides supplies within budget limitations and monitors effective maintenance of equipment.

Responsible for safety of patients and employees. Investigates and documents all incidents.

Enforces infection control polices/protocol.

Consults with the Anesthesiologist/Director of Surgical services for medical direction regarding RR/OPSU.

Investigates all problems, complaints, and other similar matters, and appropriately follows-up.

Participates in and promotes continuous quality improvement activities.

Directs assessment and planning for the nursing needs of the patient.

Implements the prescribed medical regime.

Has a working knowledge of all equipment, supplies, anesthetic agents, and medicine specific to the RR/OPSU.

Places orders for special supplies in accordance with the needs of the RR/OPSU.

Discusses operational concerns with appropriate individuals, as the need arises.

Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical, safety, and infection

control.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Graduate of a RN program required.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Completion of Critical Care Course preferred.

Minimum Work Experience:

One to three years’ experience in supervision preferred.

Three to five years’ experience in nursing practice.

*Required Licenses: * Current nurse's license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MLS) from compact member states/territories required.

BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.

Required Skills:

Tact and courtesy in dealing with people at all levels.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Knowledgeable applicable regulations and standards pertinent to the Recovery Room/Outpatient Surgery Unit.
