Job Description:

What You’ll Do

The Senior Associate Data Engineer will implement analytical solutions by designing, developing, maintaining, and testing data solutions for the product using the enterprise framework. This role will strive to become a subject matter expert in domain data and use data knowledge to solve business problems. Senior Associate Data Engineers will contribute opinions to design decisions and actively participate in agile ceremonies. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

How You’ll Do It

• Independently executes a variety of data integration solutions, recognizes data related patterns, and solicits advice on potential approaches

• Contributes opinions to design decisions and understands design tradeoffs

• Develops skills in data warehouse tools, Cloud, agile and other technologies involved in data integration

• Demonstrates and applies knowledge of:

• Data Integration concepts and tools

• DW Design concepts and Metadata documentation

• Data Profiling tools

• Data Security

• Data Quality

• Regularly contributes to team agile ceremonies and helps new engineers with onboarding

• Troubleshoots production issues and defects

• Identifies and executes test scenarios and shares test results

• Participates in the on-call rotation for support

• Analyze domain data to become knowledgeable on data characteristics and relationships across multiple data sources through query development

• Develop data pipelines using DevOps tools and Cloud technologies

• Achieve team commitments through collaboration with other engineers, architects, product owners, data scientists and business partners.

• Contribute to technology communities of practice at Discover in areas of design-thinking, tools/technology, agile software development, security, architecture and/or data.

• Adhere to IT standards and best practices within the system/application infrastructure and compatibility with the architecture of the platform.

Qualifications You’ll Need

The Basics

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field

• 1+ years of experience in Data Platform Administration/Engineering

• Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of advanced beginner on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Physical And Cognitive Requirements

• Primarily remain in a stationary position.

• No required movement about the work environment to complete the major responsibilities of the job.

• Primarily performed indoors in an office setting.

• Ability to operate office equipment such as but not limited to computer, telephone, printer, and calculator.

• Ability to communicate verbally.; Ability to communicate in written form.

Bonus Points If You Have

• ETL/ELT Tools (Ab Initio, DataStage, Informatica)

• Strong experience with SQL, preferably Snowflake

• Data analysis skills, including data cleansing, data visualization, and/or critical thinking

• Experience in supplemental tools and technologies involved in data integration (Unix/Linux, TWS/Control-M or alike, BI stack)

• Experience working with relational or no-SQL databases, Cloud Tools

• Other programming languages (Unix scripting, Python, etc.)

• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)

• Some Experience with DevOps CI/CD framework, Open-Source concepts, key infrastructure concepts (data centers as well as cloud hosting platform) to support business data needs

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $73,500.00 to $124,300.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
