Position Information

The Lab Assistant 1 will work in the California Citrus Nursery Board funded project to Dr. Paulina Quijia-Lamina on In vitro propagation of citrus rootstocks and bio-indexing indicators. The overall goal of the project is to establish a micropropagation protocol that will upgrade CCPP’s therapy procedures and support bioindicators production for variety index and will provide the foundational knowledge for in vitro culture production of citrus rootstocks for future use by California citrus nurseries through three objectives: 1) Upgrade and optimize the shoot-tip grafting (STG) protocol used in the CCPP for therapy and pathogen elimination from citrus propagative materials. 2) Standardize an optimal in vitro propagation protocol to produce citrus plant indicators and rootstocks species that are required for therapy and bioindexing procedures in the CCPP. 3) Standardize optimal in vitro propagation protocols to produce different rootstocks genotypes, that can be potentially implemented by the citrus nursery industry in commercial scale. The Lab Assistant 1 will work assisting to Dr. Quijia-Lamina primarily on Objective 2 and 3.

The full salary range for the Lab Assistant 1 is $19.43 - $22.49 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $19.43 - $19.78 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Degree Requirement

Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Required

Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as biology, plant science, horticulture, or botany. Preferred
