SCHEDULE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) SHIFT: Days No Weekends.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an expert clinician who promotes and mentors staff in evidence-based practice and exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert education, consultation, research, and management activities. The CNS promotes and supports professional practice activities such as research, peer review and publication. The CNS has advanced knowledge, skills and experience and acts as a resource, mentor and teacher for nursing staff. Provides clinical support and resources for the RCH NICU, PEDS, and will work in collaboration with the OB Educator for Maternal Newborn and Labor and Delivery. Responsible for ensuring new nursing staff receive effective clinical orientation. Problem-solves issues of clinical significance with managers and staff, promotes improvement in patient care and staff performance. The CNS interacts closely with the Education Department; assists with continuing education by assessing learning needs based on practice changes, product changes, addition of new services, quality indicators/initiatives and staff requests.The CNS promotes and supports professional development of the staff such as advanced education and/or specialty certification through mentoring and development and implementation of preparatory curricula. The CNS provides consultation and education to students, nurses and other health care providers. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 3-5 years of experience in nursing education or management preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Current RN license in the state of California. Current AHA BCLS Current AHA ACLS Current NRP Current PALS Board Certified CNS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. BSN, MSN required preferred Post Masters.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the principles of adult education. Demonstrates the ability to plan and provide delivery of educational services.
- Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of people and to maintain constructive relationships in dealing with them.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to assume leadership role within the health team in planning and delivery of educational services.
- Minimal supervision. Individual proceeds on his/her own initiative, in Compliance with the Mission and Vision, policies, procedures and practices of RCH.
