Applicants must provide a resume and a cover letter addressing 1) experience with maintenance and service repair work on institutional/commercial building heating (steam & hot water), ventilating, air conditioning, chillers, refrigeration systems and/or HVAC control systems and 2) the projects you have worked on over the past 5 years including approximate dates and your role in the project.
A criminal background check will be completed on final candidates. The selected candidate must be able to pass a post-offer employment test and hold a valid driver’s license to obtain Wisconsin certification to drive University vehicles. A six-month probationary period is required.
Deadline to Apply: Initial review of applications will begin upon receipt.
Starting rate of pay is $45.36 to $46.82 per hour, depending on leave time selected, plus benefits. This position includes University of Wisconsin State Benefits in addition to the rate of pay.
Vacation, earn 12-22 day per year based on election, unused hours carry over until the end of the following fiscal year.
Paid holidays and sick days.
Paid Parental Leave after 6 months of continuous employment.
Excellent health insurance with choice of plan design and carrier, affordable premiums.
Dental, vision, life, and disability insurance options.
After 5 years of employment, become vested in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) and if eligible can apply for a monthly annuity as early as age 55.

Position Summary
Install, remodel, maintain and repair systems for heating/cooling water hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and steam systems within power houses, distribution systems and buildings to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.
Responsibilities
Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration ( HVACR ) systems, equipment, and controls.
Performs skilled steamfitter work according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes.
Maintains electric, electronic, or pneumatic controls for refrigeration equipment.
Interprets blueprints and drawings to assess and verify specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required.
Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs.
Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations.
Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations.
Collaborates with and assists contractors as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required:
Successful completion of a registered steamfitter apprenticeship program approved by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
Must possess and maintain an applicable refrigeration license or be able to obtain this license within 6 months of start date.
Demonstrate skills in diagnosing and repairing steam/hot water heating systems, ventilation, air conditioning, chillers, refrigeration systems, and direct digital controls.
Evidence of strong customer skills.
Maintain a valid driver’s license that permits Wisconsin certification to drive University vehicles
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights up to 50 lbs.
Ability to utilize a computer for Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Excel, and Word
Successful completion of a post-offer employment test.
Preferred:
Experience working in an educational environment.
Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys control system software.
