Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking an innovative and ambitious Scientist II/III, Biotherapeutics Expression and Purification to join our Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility.
We are seeking a talented Scientist II/III who will conduct high throughput expression and purification to support screening and development of protein biotherapeutics in a fast-paced research environment. This person will be primarily responsible for designing and executing protein production processes as well as analyzing, and interpreting production data to understand inherent protein attributes. This person will also work closely with automation and digitalization experts to drive implementation and improvement of automation platforms. The ideal candidate will be an analytical thinker with creative problem-solving skills; a quick learner who takes the initiative and manages workflows for several projects with enthusiasm and resourcefulness; an effective collaborator, working with different functional areas to enhance project knowledge.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Plan, coordinate and perform high throughput expression of biotherapeutic proteins using suspension CHO cells at various scales (plate based, tube based, and flask based) with automated platforms; Determine key cell-culture parameters and interpret findings.
• Plan, coordinate, and perform high throughput purification of biotherapeutic proteins using automated platforms providing teams with high-quality material and data in a timely manner. Evaluate standard protein quality analytics and interpret results.
• Drive process improvements in consistency and throughput using automation and digitalization working with key experts.
• Evaluate new technologies and process changes to improve the productivity, quality and consistency of the expression and purification processes.
• Independently interpret, communicate, and present results through reports and internal presentations.
• Work closely with counterparts from other functional areas to deliver on research milestones while adhering to broad project timelines.
• Comply with all applicable regulations, perform all work in a safe manner; maintain proper records in accordance with SOP’s and policies.
Requirements
Scientist II:
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with three-plus (3+) years of experience in related scientific discipline or Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field
Scientist III:
• Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with three-plus (3+) years of experience in related scientific discipline, OR Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with six-plus (6+) years of experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field
Requirements for both levels:
• Extensive hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture techniques including several years of experience with CHO based transient protein production in the context of biotherapeutics drug discovery.
• Hands on experience conducting antibody and protein purification, ideally using high throughput processes.
• Experience with lab automation, liquid handlers, and analytical devices like UHPLC; in-depth knowledge (programming, troubleshooting) is preferred.
• Experience with statistical and DOE software (JMP, R, Minitab, Statistica) is beneficial.
• Creative problem solving with a high level of initiative and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Good record-keeping and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent writing, presenting, and communicating skills.
• Able to learn quickly and excel in a past-faced work environment, self-motivation, adaptability and positive attitude.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including verification of your past employment, criminal history, and educational background
• Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
• Must be 18 years of age or older
Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $75,000 and $122,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements.
