The Senior Engineer position is a key contributor in the technology infrastructure and shared services of the following areas; virtual servers, endpoint hardware, Windows Operating Systems. This position is responsible for driving end-user experience through technology while maintaining the security and integrity of all digital workspaces, virtual servers and endpoints throughout the enterprise.

This position will be responsible for ensuring that infrastructure development and implementation meets CarMax quality expectations and requires an excellent team player that is highly qualified to lead projects and organize priorities across multiple initiatives.

The Senior Engineer will work with other Engineers to analyze system requirements, lead the design and review of new systems, and recommend new technologies and infrastructure improvements, across both physical and virtual environments. This position is responsible for ensuring that developed infrastructure meets CarMax’s quality expectations and will assist leadership to create infrastructure roadmaps based on business strategy. This position reports directly to a Team Manager+, Endpoint Engineering & Delivery.

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Design solutions for endpoints systems and/or management platforms

  • Analyze business and technical requirements to determine system design requirements, identify potential issues, and perform cost analysis related costs to each project.

  • Serve as the lead SME for medium to large projects during the implementation of enterprise tools, technologies, and processes

  • Development and analysis of infrastructure systems and equipment designs for multiple large initiatives

  • Proactively research and assess new technologies that could potentially provide new capabilities to the business

  • Evaluate platform performance; recommend and deliver improvements to increase productivity and reduce cost

  • Evaluates and interprets complex system error logs, performance metrics, and other application or server output to identify problems in server performance or application execution

  • Design and implement security and management utilities of technology infrastructure including by not limited to servers, virtual desktops mobile devices and personal computers

  • Perform intermediate administration of virtual/physical servers and endpoints to include but not limited to operating systems, platform upgrades and security patching

  • Drive efficient resolution for system outages as well as performance and functional shortcomings

Purpose of the role

It takes a passion for technology to solution develop and iterate on innovative solutions to problems. You will partner with other Engineers in product and technology to influence the direction for the organization as we establish the patterns, guidance and design for building and deploying infrastructure to support both customer and internal facing applications. You will serve as an expert on our overall technical designs and standards. You should have strong communications skills, a strong sense of ownership, a passion for customer service, and a deep technical understanding of how our infrastructure platforms can contribute to the overall successful of our application development.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related Technology field or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of work experience 

  • Knowledge of Agile/Kanban methodologies

  • Knowledge of DevOps methodologies

  • Expertise in multiple Unified Endpoint Management Technologies

  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager (MECM/Intune/SCCM)

  • Subscriptions

  • PC Configuration

  • Policies and initiatives

  • Enterprise Mobility Management (UEM/EMM)

  • Digital Workspace Solutions

  • Microsoft O365 Products

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of one of the following locations and have a Hybrid work arrangement :

  • Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center

  • Dallas, TX Technology Hub
