POSITION SUMMARY

The Monitor Technician/Unit Secretary functions under the direction of the professional nurse. Responsible for cardiac monitor observation and reporting of cardiac rhythm changes to the nursing staff for further investigation when indicated. The Monitor technician will demonstrate knowledge appropriate to the age of the patients served. Demonstration of knowledge will include principles of growth and development and interpretation of information and data to identify the patient’s age-specific needs. Performs other duties incidental to the work described herein.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIRMENTS

  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate with team members

  • Requires an understanding of department/ hospital policies, procedures, and schedules

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology usually acquired through three to six-month, on-the-job experience.

  • Requires training in cardiac monitoring and documentation; SFMC will provide a basic arrhythmia course, successful completion of this course is required.

CERTIFICATIONS

  • CPR certification

  • ACLS certification preferred
